      Carra

Absolute legend, won't be the same without him around the club. And I really dread the day that Gerrard retires.

Great player and even though he's worried me of late he's still a hero in my eyes.

The times they are a changin'.

I'd give the vice captain role to Suarez (every little bit to make him stay), i'd prefer Agger to concentrate on his own game and cut out the plethora of mistakes.
          We come not to play.

Retiring Liverpool star Jamie Carragher was best of the rest

How good was he? At his best, perhaps for a four-year spell between 2005 and 2009, he was a defender that would have improved almost any team in Europe. As good as Fabio Cannavaro, Rio Ferdinand or John Terry? Perhaps not. B

Maybe not Cannavaro but Ferdinand and Terry? ****ing laughable comment IMO.

Just think he's saying that because for the duration of Carra's peak years, they were the first choice centre back pairing for Ingerlund really.

I thought Carra was better than Terry at his peak, but I might be biased in his favour.

You're right it's clearly the England thing and I'm biased too but I've never got it with Ferdinand. For someone referred to as "cultured" he seemed to use the Carra hoof an awful lot during Internationals.

Terry - terrific in the prem' but never at Carra's level in European games IMO and to bracket Rio or JT with Cannavaro is in itself laughable.

Right or wrong, I definitely wouldn't say it was laughable. I might not particularly like them but Ferdinand and Terry have been excellent defenders.

Ferdinand looked like he could develop into a 'cultured' player when he was coming through, but I think he was unable to balance his qualities on the ball with becoming a top defender. His concentration was ****, almost Bramble-like, and he was caught out of position a lot. So he established himself in another mould.

Definitely agree Cannavaro was far and away the best of the lot mentioned.

He might not be the greatest defender to play for Liverpool but that performance in the semi finals and finals was definitely among the greatest by a Liverpool defender.

                        Just seen this

                        Carragher

To be honest I thought he might have played another season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm a bit perplexed about the total severance from the club comment. Not sure it needs saying, perhaps I'm reading too much in to it

Apparently Barrett says in today's Times that he's agreed to become BT's no.1 pundit for next season.

"Song walked on to the training pitch with a smile on his face. He was limping off it with a grimace an hour later. The first chance I got, I did him. Never have I hunted down a 50–50 tackle with greater appetite. 'You're not ****ing laughing now, are you, you soft cunt?' I said as he hobbled away."
