Sturridge revealed: "Stevie was very nice to me and let me have the penalty. I guess he knew my pain and thought he would be kind to me.

"Before that, the 'keeper made some good saves and I was hitting the target. When you hit the target and the 'keeper saves it, there's nothing you can really do. The 'keeper did his job, I was doing my job - he got the better of me.

"So I was lucky that I got the penalty from Stevie and I'm happy that I put it away.

"He was asking Carra first, then I asked him. In the end, he let me have it and I thank him very much for giving me the opportunity to score another goal."
LOLOLOL, I almost wish this had happened for epic amusement. If he'd scored obviously. Who've we got in the last game at Anfield?

That would just be a completely dishonest goal though.

He is a pretty good penalty taker Carra.

              Yup.

Runs at the ball like he's going to put his foot through it, only to place it in the top right hand corner.

I've seen him miss more pens than score so he can't be that good....

Can think of the miss for England - although he scored originally and then had to retake.

Scored in the 2001 Cup Final, Scored 2 in his testimonial. And from videos I've seen in the past in training where has taken some he has already looked decent.

Given his legendary European performances over the years for us, what a terribly unfitting way to bow out.

He's saved us on so many occasions and he didn't deserve for his last European game to end up like that.

                    Carra.

He was immense last night aside from that single moment of misfortune.

Yeah, he played well. But Jesus, what a mistake and what a time to make it. Felt awful for him, his face was redder than his shirt afterwards.

Strange use of the word 'immense'.

He's had plenty of games when he has been immense - but last night it wasn't 'backs to the wall' which needed a heroic defensive performance.

He had a decent game apart from the mistake.

You are being a touch pedantic there tbf. Given his age/physical limitations at this stage of his career, plus the cock-up that led to their goal, I honestly think he was immense (in the casual sense of the word ).
