That's because Skrtel and Carragher are the same type of player, both need to play along side someone of a different style, like Agger, if we are to have a good partnership.

I think this is a big part of it but I also think in general that Skrtel is quite reactive. If encouraged to play the ball out he is quite good at it but with Carragher being such a dominant personality in the team I think he just follows his lead and adopts a more safety first approach.

I'm beginning to worry that I'm developing an Arn like criticism complex but I do feel that the Adam/Lucas axis is in part to blame. Defenders who are not great at passing need multiple easy options and they rarely seem to have them (I guess you could also blame the wide players but I think that is a secondary problem).
