Gerrard played a lot of positions over the years too. Sometimes when people were injured his versatility meant he was moved, but I'd never have regarded him as a 'utility player' for the simple reason it gives the impression of a reserve who comes in to 'do a job' rather than an regular first choice player which is exactly what Carragher clearly was.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostHe did spend a full season at RB and then the following one at LB in the early 2000's. Can't say I remember him having many consistent spells as a CB for Ged though. He was certainly moved about a lot during Houllier's final season. He was still being switched from RB to CB to LB well into Ged's last few months, filling in for Finnan, Henchoz and Riise at various times. Houllier did use him as a CB but it was Rafa who made him a fixture there.Like blood on iron

He was a favourite of Houllier's but he never really had a set position under him, whether he changed position by the game or by the season. In Houllier's last season in particular, Carragher was the epitome of a utility player (they don't necessarily have to be reserves), yes he played regularly but in several positions. When Rafa arrived and made Carragher his 1st choice CB alongside Hyypia, we never saw him shifted again.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostGerrard played a lot of positions over the years too.
