I said it back in January, if Meireles stays this summer, he'll be gone the next. I just can't see him getting into the first team much and he's at a point in his career where he needs to play.

With the potential rumoured signings where would he fit in a 4-4-2, 4-3-3
If we sign Henderson a right midfield/CM, also Adam;
Gerrard comes back. Its going to be tough for him to get a regular spot next season.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postnot a chance. laughable
Who's to say Henderson will fit in straight away and Gerrard is 31 now and should be nursed a bit more if we have quality to cover him IMO.

John Barnes doesn't agree with you eitherOriginally posted by Baracus View PostWhy not, his value has increased and where going to be overloaded with players with limited games.
You don't potentially spend 20m on henderson not to have him in the starting 11. Lucas and Gerrard in the middle. How would you accommodate a player like Raul. You can't leave him on the bench for long periods of the season.
Full article here http://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/...th-suarez.htmlBarnes worked alongside Kenny Dalglish during an ill-fated stint as manager at Celtic after being recruited by the Scot in June 1987 during his first term as Liverpool boss.
In conjunction with John Aldridge and Peter Beardsley, he was central to a highly attractive brand of football which resulted in the league championship returning to Anfield a year later.
And the former Tranmere Rovers boss, 47, believes that Uruguay international Suarez can form a similar trinity with Raul Meireles and captain Steven Gerrard but also emphasised that Liverpool's owners must allow Dalglish to strengthen if they are to mount a title challenge.
“Obviously Steven Gerrard is the main player but with Suarez coming in and Meireles, they've got lots of good players but more importantly it's the way they actually play,” said Barnes.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Having put more thought to this I can see why he may be sold for the same price/in an exchange. Kenny looks keen to adopt a lopsided 4-4-2/4-3-3 with the right sided midfielder playing an attacking right position.
Meireles made that position his own while SG was injured.
This is the position which best suits Meireles SG and probably ultimately Henderson (and maybe even Shelvey). If we can get adam for 8mil and use Meireles in some kind of swap deal for Mata it will be an excellent piece of business.
Adam can warm the bench while mata takes the vacant left wing position.96 Never Forgotten

Bottom line is, with the expected arrival of Adam, it looks as if either Aqualani or Raul will be out the door.
Gone a bit quiet on the Aqualani front, can't even rely on Juve on the cheap now that Pirlo has signed, but I would be surprised to see Raul go this soon. A lot of anonymous displays, mixed in with some excellent performances....he is getting on, but I do think he could be an important part of our squad going forward.
Showed some promise in an advanced role as well when Gerrard was out, so he could be a decent option to have coming off our bench.
We'll wait and see, but you don't spend 30m on your midfield and expect everyone to stick around."I will make the boys feel your support"
