I bet he's regretted doing it and will learn from it. Perhaps now he will just concentrate on his football and keep his head down and sign a new contract in the summer like a good little boy.
He doesn't come across as a jumped up little **** to me anyway, just a young lad taking advice from someone he's meant to trust to be doing things in HIS best interests, all the time knowing and being told, that LFC will be trying to do what's in THEIR best interests.

Also, there's the real possibility that he doesn't want to remain here long term, wants to get back to an area closer to home, closer to his early football inspirations even maybe ? and if that was the case, we'd just have to respect that and move on.

Aye, he's been badly advised and I'd like him to stay but if not we make sure we get the best deal we can for the club.

Would be absolutely amazing if can £50m for him. Half that amount would be more realistic.

hmmmm, I think he's underrated on here by some. He excels in so many things like dribbling, tenacity, and tactical awareness. Watching the Premier League, there aren't many other players like him who run at that pace. It's frightening but I guess we've become accustomed to it. At one point, he was single handedly winning us games at the age of 20. I think it's easy to forget how good he is when a player goes through a bad patch.

I would say £50m is about the right price.

On his day and playing through the middle he is up there with the best under 21 in Europe. 50m is ridiculous money but Sterling has to come close, especially when you consider how much Gareth Bale went for.

If you watch suarezs third goal v Cardiff from last season. Sterling ran the pitch to be available for a tap in but Suarez instead slotted it past the goalie. he was on a hattrick and two on one v the keeper. Sterling puts his hands on his head as if he was gutted luis didnt give him the free goal. This was the lfc team that was going full steam ahead for the league.....the "kid who just loves playing football and just wants to win trophies" was pissed off......his teammate just put the game beyond doubt. He should have been counting his ****in lucky stars that he was on the same pitch as Suarez....

If someone offered 50m, we should take it, even if he wanted to stay.

Sterling would probably fetch 35m+ realistically IMO. Clubs aren't as stupid as we'd like to think, and he's far from the finished article.

I think £50m is probably pie in the sky stuff as well. He is nowhere near being the sort of player you would expect to get for that sort of money.

But if some club wanted to throw in a mad bid of around that amount then we would be foolish not to take it.

I think if Sterling stays at Liverpool and works his arse off at improving for two or three seasons, then he could become something special, but right now he is more potential than finished article and he needs regular game time along with a manager who wants to help him develop. He could have this if he stays, but not quite as easy to see him getting that at the sort of clubs that could afford to chuck £50m our way for him.

My own hope is that he knuckles down between now and the end of the season and rolls off a string of quality performances. That way he improves both his chances of getting a better contract if he stays or a big move if he wants out, and from the club's pov it means we get points on the board and improve our chances of getting mega money if he does not want to stay.

Everton paid 28m for lukaku, so may 10 more as sterling is "english" and a bit more as Chelsea have all the dough. Tell them 50m, settle for 47ish.

They did pay 28m, but then again he had a much better record in the Premier league as an attacking player at the age of 20 than Sterling has now at the same age.

Lukaku was on the back of two very good seasons in the EPL for such a young player.

17 goals from 35 PL games for West Brom at the ages of 19/20 followed by 15 goals from 31 PL games at the ages of 20/21.

So pretty damn impressive stats in the PL for such a young player who like Sterling is still very much in the potential stage of his career.

He is raw and has poor games, but has that knack of getting goals even when going through runs of poor games. Would have been much happier to have seen us try for him last summer and passed on the signings of Balotelli and Lambert. Think he is exactly the sort of young player that would blossom under Rodgers.

But your point about Sterling being english is a good one and it is something that can add quite a bit onto the price of a player moving within the PL.

Rise in star’s value forces Liverpool to demonstrate their worth

In one sense, at least, it is not about the money. For all the accusations of avarice levelled at Raheem Sterling, the England forward’s future will be decided as much by who wins his heart and mind as it will by which club offer him the biggest contract. Should Brendan Rodgers, his manager, hold sway, he will stay at Liverpool; if the influence of Aidy Ward, his agent, remains strongest, he will go.

Manager pitted against agent is one of professional football’s most enduring stories, but rarely is it as clear-cut as this. Sterling has not decided to leave Anfield, but he is being convinced that such a drastic course of action would be in his best interests by Ward.

While Rodgers maintains that the 20-year-old’s development would be best served by remaining under his tutelage, Ward hopes to entice his client beyond the Shankly Gates by highlighting what he regards as the superior career opportunities on offer elsewhere.

It is a battle of wills that Arsenal, unwittingly or, given Sterling’s admission that he is flattered by their interest, perhaps not, could decide in Ward’s favour. Defeat for Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow would undermine their bid to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League, a setback that would bolster Ward’s belief that Sterling is more likely to play regular Champions League football at a rival club.

With the clubs potentially set to meet in this season’s FA Cup final, Arsenal could end Liverpool’s hopes of winning silverware for only the second time since 2006. As Sterling said in his controversial interview with the BBC that angered his present employers and put his future in fresh doubt, he “purely wants to be the best” that he can be.

Rightly or wrongly — and Liverpool feel it is the latter given that the north London club have won only one trophy in the past decade — Ward believes that Arsenal could offer the forward a better chance of fulfilling that desire.

Faced with that stance, Rodgers has urged Sterling to reflect on the huge progress he has made under his management at Liverpool, to continue buying into his vision, recognise that his career is still in the formative stages and that there is more work to be done before he should even consider following players such as Luis Suárez out of the club.

“Players now may look to later in their career and their life. But I can only focus on here, on Liverpool and what is best for him and now,” Rodgers said. “As a 20-year-old, no he’s not at that level [of Suárez]. He’s a very talented young footballer hopefully on his way to that level. We think that will be best for him here, and we will work hard to ensure he stays.

“I can only focus on the importance he has for us, and he’s made himself very important over the last two and a half years. This is a young team still developing and over the years will be challenging and improving. We’re trying to get best group of players we can in the market we’re in.”

While Sterling has admitted that there is no better place for a young player to ply his trade than at Liverpool largely because of Rodgers’ presence, the belief has not been sufficient for him to commit his future to them.

The rejection of a new contract worth £100,000 per week, a deal that would almost have trebled his wage, and the postponement of talks until the season ends were not solely financial decisions, because they afforded Sterling and Ward the breathing space to see what the campaign yields for Liverpool.

In that respect, Liverpool will spend the next two months having to prove themselves worthy of the services of a player who was a teenager four months ago. They will do so knowing that there may be further agitations from Sterling’s camp, on or off the record, after the 27-minute interview he gave to the BBC without their consent.

“There may or may not be more to follow,” Rodgers said. “I can only concentrate on the present, working with the players and communicating with the player, and what will be on the contract is further down the line.

“You have seen what can happen with players and representatives, but I can only speak openly and honestly with Raheem. He has made it clear he is happy and said he does not want — after every interview — to be asked about his contract. Hopefully he can do his talking on the field.”

With a voice on one shoulder urging him to go and one on the other beseeching him to stay, Sterling has a great deal of thinking to do. While his decision to go public on his contract saga may have been ill advised and counterproductive in terms of his image, the idea that Sterling is a thoughtful young man who is capable of working things out for himself is yet to be dismissed by Liverpool.

But they also know that if Ward’s influence remains as strong as it has been in recent months, even Rodgers’ ability to get players to buy into his vision may not be enough to keep Sterling on board.
