Was listening to an agent talking about the fees the other day on the radio

They generally get 5% commission on the players wages (so £150K per week would yield £390K per annum for the agent)

They would also get a bonus fee for arranging said deal within the region of £1m

Funnily enough the agent refused to quantify the amount they receive during a transfer transaction but said it can be upto 20% of the value of any deal!!!!

To be honest I am passed caring whether its Sterling or his agent creating the problem. I feel the offers we have made him have been reasonable and we are in a decent position to sell him and find a replacement at a cheaper cost most likely

Henderson is however another story imo, if we dont do a deal for him giving him what he wants (or close to it) we wont find a replacement for that kind of financial package

Agents should have their awards capped. £250,000 a sale or something like that.

Thanks for posting this Lecter, it's interesting stuff. The thing that gets me when I read this type of stuff is why don't the players realise how much the agent is in this for themselves, I mean it's one thing telling the player you should be paid more, reject that offer and they will come back with a bigger one or whatever. But this situation is so blatent to me that Sterling's agent is out to make a name/reputation for himself, he clearly doesn't want Sterling to sign a new contract with us - why? Because Sterling is probably his most high profile client and what looks more impressive from his point of view (or to his current/future clients); getting Sterling a new contract worth £120k a week at LFC or negotiating a fairly big money transfer from LFC to Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid or wherever. Even if that club offers Sterling the same money as he would have got at LFC, the transfer raises his profile as an agent, which is better for Sterling, to be honest his agent doesn't give a ****.

Now I know that footballers don't have the reputation of being the smartest of people but how can they not see something like this?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm coming to the opinion that we should sell Sterling in the summer and not try to negotiate anymore with that agent. This is potentially distracting/damaging for the club, and probably not the last time if he stays with the agent.
                  * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Make a statement of sorts that the agent is toxic and if any other clubs are watching, beware. Should also give players choosing an agent food for thought too if they know an agent isn't on great terms with certain club(s).

Not sure I would be actively touting him round (his agent is doing that for us)

But if a decent offer came in I would bite their hands off and be done with it

We will do it properly, the Liverpool way. Let the negotiations continue for 18 moths, then let him **** off on a free to Chelsea or City.

Cash in during the summer at what £40m? Would anyone really pay even that for him? I can't see it.

Or keep him at the same money he's on now, get another season at least from him, hopefully with the Euro's ahead, he wouldn't be sulking and would perform throughout and then sell him for a lot less later as the contract is nearly up? A season of Sterling on form could be worth as much as £40m if he really steps up. Would save us having to buy another player this year to replace him. Since he cost us very little and we've had some good performances from him, anything we sell for, means we're up on the deal.

                          We have options.

We have options but when you weigh up it in financial terms (and I'm sure this is the FSG methodology) its a no brainer to sell this summer

We are only up on the deal if we buy within the financial package we sell him for (fee plus the wages saved).

He may not have said it, but for instance i went out for a drink (there through a mutual friend) With Andy Carrolls agent and it can be upto 25% shared...for instance Carroll got 15% of the fee from liverpool & Agent 10%

The reality is both would be set up for life with one big move......not like they should be with 100k a week salary!!
