Manchester City are preparing a £40m bid for Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling, 20, but the Anfield club remain determined to keep the player. (Mirror)

City will offer Sterling a wage of up to £200,000 a week to convince him to sign, as the club seeks to increase their quota of English players. (Express)

Sterling's agent says reports that his client wants to leave Liverpool have been "somewhat blown out of proportion" ahead of talks with manager Brendan Rodgers and chief executive Ian Eyres on Friday. (Talksport)

What chance have we got when there are clubs throwing that kind of money around.

We can only dream of signing top established players, and now we're being priced out of the potentials market.it's getting ridiculous.

I don't think the £200,000 figure will be correct ... I'm pretty sure that's just been plucked out of the air. I don't even think Pellegrini will at Manchester City next year, so I can't imagine they'll be showing their hand just yet.

Looking how Sterling's agent operates, I can imagine there will be a lot of leaks over the coming weeks.

Hmmmm. If we are so mediocre why do top teams want our best players. I think the picture is more complicated that the doom merchants are making out. That's not to say all is rosy, which is clearly far from the truth. Given the absence of a striker for much of the year I think you could argue we got surprisingly close to United. What both teams do this summer will be important for the medium/long term I think.

Because we have turned into a bit of a feeder club.

                Steady !

(in Sterling's mind, that one incident has been gnawing away at him, eroding his self-esteem - how dare the manager say that to him !)

Not bothered if he stays or goes but far as I can see the club hold the power. They can force him to stay for the next 2 seasons and stay on £35k per week thats he's on if they want to.

He will then after either accept that wage for 2 more seasons or sign an extension for the higher salary.

Poorly man managed , played every major game of the last two seasons.

If he doesn't be careful we got the next Jermaine Pennant looked brilliant as a youngster but that is as good as it was.

Still cant get over the England incident when he was too tired and we all backed him as one of our own but starting to show he looks like he only cares about himself and no matter what you think football is a team game.

No. He's been handled the same way as Henderson and Coutinho.

He owes everything to Brendan ... he was just another kid with promise a couple of seasons ago and Brendan put a huge amount of faith in him and backed him the the hilt time in and time again, and he grew into a first team player quite fast, but initially it was a very ballsy move my Bdog to put him in the squad week in week out

Such is his quality. He's a great player and deservedly started those games (not so much recently, granted). I don't think it's down to poor man management (Rodgers gave him permission to go to Jamaica when all this started in the press) - he's just a good player and was vital to the way we were playing.
