Raheem Sterling risks career by listening to 'bad advice,' says Thierry Henry

Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry has warned Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling that he risks "destroying his life and career" by listening to "bad advice".

Sterling has been linked with a move away from Anfield following reports he is not willing to sign a new deal, but Henry is advising the 20-year-old to think twice before making a wrong decision.

Speaking after watching Arsenal draw 0-0 with Sunderland, Henry told Sky Sports: "I think we all know that he's been receiving some bad advice.

"You can't go out there and talk about your contract in the press. You have to respect your fans, respect the club that you play for.

"If you want to leave Liverpool or not, when you make the decision about leaving or staying, then do it. Don't discuss yourself in the paper.

"I went through the same thing. When I was young I had a problem with Real Madrid and Monaco because some guys that were around me were putting stuff in my head.

"I lost my football, mentally I wasn't there anymore, I wasn't concentrating on anything, and therefore it looked like I was going to have a good career and people were questioning me when I hadn't even started my career.

"So it's the same thing with Raheem Sterling. To an extent you can blame the agent, adviser, whatever you want to call them now but you need to be a man about it also, you need to be able to say, 'Enough, you're destroying my life, you're destroying my career.'"

But the Frenchman says he would be happy to see Sterling return to London to join his old club if he makes a decision to call time on his three-year spell at Anfield.

"He's a great product for Liverpool and he's going to be a great product for England. I would be more than happy to see him play for Arsenal but he's still a Liverpool player," he added.

"We all know he's a Londoner, and we know Arsene Wenger is interested in him."

How many people have to say exactly this before Raheem thinks "hang on a sec".

Personally I don't care if he goes, horrible the way he has gone about things... don't care what age he is.

And Oxlayde-Chamberlain is reportedly about to become one of his clients
He is already an 'adviser' to Oxlade-Chamberlain but his real agent is his father (from what I read) which is probably why he hasn't been making any noises in the press. If Ward was in complete control then I would expect Arsenal to be feeling the pain both we and WBA are currently experiencing.

just a quick question - if Sterling wrapped his car today, and had a life-changing accident that meant he couldn't play football any longer, then what insurance does the club get??? Is it his wages that are covered.....or his transfer value???

Acting like a petulant brat doesn't get you out of a contract, he signed a deal (and was offered a much improved one!) and he should honour it and get on with his job. I do think that we should ensure clauses are inserted into contracts so that players can't make stupid comments through the media. They represent the club as long as they're paid megabucks to play for us.
Yes but this isn't a low level job. It's a high pressure job where success and failure is mere percentages. If someone's head isn't in it, then ultimately you (the club) will suffer the most. It's best to get rid and get a return as their value to you is a lot less than the money you'd receive.

Suarez is a different case as he is driven by a desire to be the best no matter the circumstances. This will always bring success to the club.

                    Nothing left to discuss

The balls in his court now

If he wants to go let his agent put in a transfer request

Great stuff. Of course the official line will be some logistical reason, but hope the message is loud and clear.........piss off, the two of ye !

The reason why this interview from Ward has come out today is because we must have told him Sterling isn't being sold in the summer.

He's then shot his mouth off to a journalist either thinking (or hoping) that he was off the record.

I think this is a smart move by the club

They have said they aint selling. (which more than likely means we are, but on our terms - meet our valuation and hand in a transfer request)

Clever move by the club. The player's agent has said that he client will not be signing no matter what offer is put on the table, so no point wasting time with meetings.

Ball is now in Raheem "It's not about the money" Sterling's court. If he wants a move and does not want a new deal, then simply hand in an official transfer request.

If he does not want to hand in a request then I would be happy to see him left rot in the ressie for the remainder of his contract because we will still be able to get a fee of some sort if he then leaves on a free as his age will mean it goes to tribunal.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

If we ever went in for a player linked with Aidy Ward again I would be extremely disappointed. Don't care if he was Messi's agent and he indicated Leo wanted to play here, I'd tell him to do one.

As for Raheem, I'd sell him to the highest bidder. I don't even care if that was United if they were happy to pay £10m extra on top. My real reasoning behind this is because I don't really rate him. Not worth a penny over £30m. But if we could rinse a club for £50m, I'd laugh my head off and take the money.

I asked this a while a go but got no answer. Can anyone tell me a couple of games where he starred on the wing? I think he did well at the tip of the diamond last year, but I think Coutinhos surpassed him in that position.

Honestly, in a fully fit team in a 433 or 4231, I think there is any number of players that would be an improvement on him.
                                Forwards.......
