The papers sit on all this stuff until the most suitable dramatic moment, when they want to create a villain. Seeing as some are annoyed he's not signing a contract at the mo, they're using all of the dirt to build on people's resentment and paint him as a stupid greedy overpaid irresponsible hate figure, and linking him with all and sundry to get the fans on his back. Villains sell papers. Brother used to work for the express and they had tonnes of stories about the crisp selling presenter cheating on his then missus but shelved them because the general public liked him and wouldn't want to see him as a cheat.
