I don't think Torres left because of Gerrard, more so a desire to challenge for trophies. I think Rafa going obviously affected him, both personally and on the pitch and the Spanish contingent was slowly shrinking. Add in the empty promises by our previous owners and playing under a clueless manager, he probably looked at the teams that could challenge Man City both financially and in a title challenge and down south he went.
As rcasemore has said, it has got to be mental; he knows where the goal is, but his touch has left him, his confidence is shot and the amount of pressure on him with both his reputation and transfer fee, must be phenomenal.
You could argue that Chelsea are a team of individuals, I mean look at what's come out of last nights result; Lampard coming out saying he doesn't know why he isn't playing and the media creaming their pants because Lampard scored the winner and didn't celebrate with AVB etc etc. Yes, Torres often created the chances himself, but with Gerrard behind him he was getting lots of chances on a plate - he misses Gerrard and I think it can be argued we are missing him.
