There is to much history with Torres and I wouldn't want him back. He left for all the wrong reasons to a rival, and at the worst possible way. Add to that he hasn't played particular good football for 2½ years now and have trouble getting game time ahead of world stars such as Sturridge, Kalou, Lukaku and a Drogba on the downhill and I don't see why we should take the chance.

He is a moody player, and needs shipping back to Spain and while I have no way of knowing it, I don't think it's enterily unlikely that quite a few players in our squad don't want him back because of the same reasons.

I have moved on long ago with Torres, and I have happily accepted that we sold a player at the right time and for twice what we paid for him

In general we just need to move on, get a proper striker and we will soon have forgotten all about him.

      Bring him back.

They do, and in general in that kind of scenario I think they are wrong to. The Carroll transfer specifically though is a muddier issue thanks to the time constraints with the window, FFP and (more tenuously) the idea the two transfer valuations were somehow linked.

Hmmm...not sure it's the same really. While it's true we could look back and equate selling Torres, buying Carroll and re-signing Torres for just £5m, it would be a massive fallacy to frame the current choices we can make in that light. Whatever budget we have, it is set in the knowledge of our previous transfers. Why factor them into our thinking a second time? The reality is if we don't think Torres is worth £20m whilst another player we could sign is, it would be highly irrational to sign Torres.

£20m for the Torres of a couple of years ago would have been a no brainer, given his form in the last year £20m and the hope that he can recapture his old form is one hell of a gamble.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's a **** footballer, lets sign someone who actually has a future.

Rushie was **** at Juventus. Lets not forget that.

I know they left under completely different circumstances but the parallel whilst they were away from Anfield is there. How did Rush do when he came back? Not bad IIRC. Maybe not as well as hist first stint but got goals nonetheless and was invaluable in the development of Robbie Fowler as well.

If Torres is available and wants to come 'home' lets do it.

But Torres has been fading for a long time, mainly as injuries took his pace away. Bit now he can't even finish with his confidence shot. Even if he got that back, he'd struggle to be a 20m player at his age, and that's if the 20m figure is true. We need to look elsewhere imo.

If he'd never played for LFC and we was available for £20m and given our woeful "fortune" infront of goal then I'd say yes we should be in for him.

No brainer for me, if both parties can put what happened in January behind them. We need a finisher. Get him.

And to completely different cultures and leagues! £20m and 150k a week on a soon to be 28 year old who's past his best would be utterly insane, I'd rather spend that on the next big thing than try and get back the old one. History and sympathy shouldnt be a reason for signing a player.

                          & I was playing devil's advocate.

Doesnt make it not worth discussing though.

What's money got to do with it, as people would argue in the Andy Carroll thread.

That's a huge issue for me. And I think it will be for any club thinking of buying him (except Russian, Chinese & US ones etc).

I accept the wages stuff and given the lack of form he's shown form he's shown he'd have to take a wage cut to something more reasonable.
