City fans did warn us he was not very good/effective centrally. They weren't bitter just because he was leaving them for us, it was just a matter of fact.

I'm with ronanm, I actually think he can do a decent job wing wise rather than in the middle where we've always lacked a bit of quality.

I thought he was poor yesterday but I kind of thought there were mitigating circumstances

Getting booked early didnt help him in terms of the defensive side and pressing

His touch was woefully off though

He's a good squad player, even say very good, but when he's been integrated as one of your top players and is supposedly meant to give the team a spine, it's just....well....mediocre.

I've been to a few England games recently with some pretty impartial, dedicated fans, and lets just say, they're not exactly whelmed by him even after how many appearances in the shirt.

Lets face it, most of us would look excellent if we had top quality around us....well, except from CJ

I think that the problem is we have too many cogs - players who can keep things ticking over and so on and that would be effective in a side with some top class players. The problem is that we don't have the top players who can actually go out there and make stuff happen.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's a willing runner but he lacks the guile to play the role he's being asked to play.

So many times yesterday we got ourselves in good positions and he played the wrong ball.

I think he needs to relax and stop trying so hard. He's so switched on tactically that he ends up covering all kinds of different positions when people go galloping away and invariably lose the ball. The poor ******* is probably so knackered when he actually gets it he doesn't know what to do with it. As others have said this is fine out on the wing (like Dirk) but it's more of a problem in the middle. He's basically the opposite of Gerrard capitaincy-wise who always seemed to make sure his own game was fine first and foremost.

When he has a blinder next game everyone will be raving about him like they were weeks ago.

One **** match and he's suddenly the worst player ever.

****ing hell, the bulk of this forum changes it mind from one game to the next. Many did the same with Can, has a brilliant game and he's been talked about as a legend, next game has a howler and everyone's binning him off.

We all know Milner is quality, doesn't matter where he's being played he can't blamed for the dross we're serving up at the moment. It's a team game so every one of them are contributors to the way we're playing not just Milner. Seems unfair to pass judgement on someone who's only started their career with us 6 games ago.

I don't think are dismissing his ability so much as realising he's not cut out for certain roles in the side. He has plenty of positives to his game but Alonso style play dictation isn't one of them IMO.

Yup he is too slow to release the ball. Not really sure where to play him in that midfield to be honest.

He was meh when we signed him and will be meh when he leaves.

I don't think many players would do well in our unstructured midfield at present. A lot of good players went missing for Dortmund last season for similar reasons.

For me Milner is a high class link player but you need units for him to be linking. At present we just have players who occasionally stand near one another (usually at corners).
