Interestingly when looking into his goal scoring stats, he broke double figures every season under Rafa (total), a manager I don't thing he got on with or gives too much credit.

Out of Gerrard's 186 Liverpool goals only 82 came outside of Rafa's reign.

He's really resurrected his career. Nailed on to get 20 goals next season. Not very good with crosses though, maybe that's what Benteke is for..

We need unsung heroes that allow our flair players to move forward with less fear. It means less sideways and backward passes due to fear of what would happen if they lose possession. If you knew that your midfield and defence had you covered, wouldn't you try more risky moves in the attacking third?

Maybe we were the only club that could guarantee him 1st team football with a reasonable chance of CL football next season. Plus the fact that I very much doubt Spurs, Saints etc would pay him close to 150K per week.

Milner knows which way the wind blows - City have tended to use him as a utility player and with Sterling arriving (possibly!) plus at least one more midfielder his time will be reduced esp in the Prem.

Wanted to remain in the north for family reasons and play as regularly as he could.
Allegedly anyway.

Unlike some on here, I actually think he's quite overrated as opposed to underrated, especially in the Sky generation media. But, as I said on here before, I'm not opposed to him being brought into this EL level squad, especially one going to be severely lacking in experience. Versatile, and a tryer, but never more than average to good (with more expressive players around him).
I'd have real questions over the cost though, especially if his free transfer wage level is not scaled over the course of a 4yr deal - surely we're not that reckless on the negotiations front.
