Out of all the potential 'dodgy' signings that have been mooted for this summer, James Milner stood out simply because he's not 'dodgy' at all. He's a solid, dependable, capable - and most of all - good player. Excellent track record.

Good signing. Excellent to have got him. Just hope his medical isn't a let down.
No! I am NOT in denial!

He's really resurrected his career. Nailed on to get 20 goals next season. Not very good with crosses though, maybe that's what Benteke is for..

Happy with Milner, him and hendo will run people into the ground in that midfield, we just need a holding player now that can either 1) replace lucas and be an upgrade or 2) come in as backup IF lucas stays fit.

Between Owen and Torres it was pretty uninspiring - Cisse, Crouch, Mellor, Baros, Kuyt, Pongolle and Morientes?

We need unsung heroes that allow our flair players to move forward with less fear. It means less sideways and backward passes due to fear of what would happen if they lose possession. If you knew that your midfield and defence had you covered, wouldn't you try more risky moves in the attacking third?

Excellent signing and a much needed set piece specialist too.

Yet between Owen and Torres we won the Champions League.

Can has got a killer shot and potential to be a goal scoring midfielder, should be like this:

                      ------------Milner-------------
                      ----Can--------------Henderson----
                      ------------Coutinho-----------

In my humblest of opinions of course
                      Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

I'd go with a diamond formation:

                            Lucas
                            Milner - Henderson
                            Coutinho

That's a strong midfield - with the potential to upgrade on Lucas this window.

We've then got Can, Markovic, Allen, Lallana, Ibe and Sterling (if he stays) to rotate into positions to cover injuries and in lesser games.

Tactics will be equally important but having Milner, Henderson and Coutinho pressing the opposition will worry plenty of teams.
that is one of the reasons i was hoping we would sign Milner to be honest..... if you have someone like Lucas (and maybe Can learning the same role) sitting behind the midfield duo of Milner and Henderson, then you can rest assured that the defense is protected. Hendo and Milner will allow the full backs to bomb on because they are both intelligent enough footballers to know when to cover and what space to cover..... Also, both Henderson and Milner are very flexible tactically. When we are under the cosh they will be able to help the DM protect the defense, but when we are on the front foot, then they will both get ahead and help get posession high up the pitch.

Also, Milner takes a very good free kick and corner.

Coutinho also works very very hard - which is something that sometimes goes unnoticed because he is so skillful. But he works his bollix off. So a diamond of Lucas, Henderson, Milner and Coutinho is a skillful 4 but also very hard working - and can actually mix things up as well. We won't be overran in midfield - put it that way.

As mentioned above though, I just hope Brendan doesn't play him left wing back!!!
