My issue with Hendo was when he was asked to play the 6 role as he was like a statue that players easily played through. When he had the legs further up the pitch he was much more effective but the time is right for him to go to a slower league.

Surely your issue is with whoever decided to play him as a 6 then

FWIW, He did good for us, the way he is leaving, leaves a little bad taste TBH, and that's before the LBGT issues that he will face.

I think the levels of sanctimony with regards to the LGBTQ issue and Henderson are off the scale.

As mentioned he is a footballer, a good leader yes, but he’s never come across as a particularly deep thinker. He has been behind a lot of decent initiatives, and this move is a black mark against one of them. But if he moves or doesn’t, it makes no real change.

FWIW, I am fine with Hendo leaving so long as replaced. I think we will lack nouse and experience if we lose Fab, Hendo and Thiago. For me all three, maybe even 2 leave and it’s a gamble.

In terms of the LGBTQ+ stuff, yes he has not chosen a destination that makes his previous comments look to hold any water. But - he’s a ****ing footballer. These are societies problems. He is a guy in his mid 30’s. Given we clearly didn’t fight for him to stay (and you’d all ****ing fume if he did) I don’t see what choices he had?

In terms of what he delivered in his 12 years, then I’m impressed. Nobody called his essential role in our success. When he signed, success was not on our radar. And then he was great from about 2018 to 2020, as well as 2014 and decent in a few other years. The year we won the League and the 2 we ran City close. You don’t carry players when you are posting the numbers we did then. He was a crucial cog in that machine, the Fab Hendo Gini midfield was immense, an all time great three.

So, think what you want. Remember his influence as you choose, but…

He had options. He could have accepted reduced minutes and stayed. He could have sought out other moves, I’m sure there’d have been other takers, just not ones that came with a pay hike.

I think the experience thing is overstated. We had these players last season, it didn’t paper over the cracks. Even if those 3 were all to leave, we’d still start next season with at least as comparatively an experienced squad as the one that started to compete for the big trophies around 2018-2019.

I also loved the Fab, Gini, Hendo midfield. Though I do think his replacing as a starter is overdue by a couple of seasons, but’s that not on him, that’s down to Klopp.

The good news is, with the two 8s we’ve signed, we’ve already replaced him as a starter.

The circumstances of his departure aren’t ideal and those that feel let down by him have every right to be.

For me & purley as an LFC footballer, he has been a fantastic servant & someone Klopp obviously appreciared greatly & TBH that'll do for me.

All the off field stuff is massivley disappointing, but at the end of the day he is his own person & as stated above thats something he will have to own fully; once he stops being an LFC player.

He's made himself look a dick but.. that 3 yr contract is worth what 85m net? Compared to about 20m net equivalent at LFC? I know people will say 20m is plenty, and it is.. but there is a huge difference between the 2 numbers and what it means to his family, his kids kids..etc.

Don't think many here would have made a different decision to the one he has tbh.

Said this before but people should be able to recognise what he was for us on the pitch and as a captain whilst still being able to disappointed in the move he has chosen to leave us for.

Disapproving of his move should not detract from his best years with us and people really should be able to separate the player and the man without feeling like they have to let one pov be the defining one on what they can say about him.


For me it is totally fine to say the move to Saudi is a bit of a ****ehawk one given how much he had to say about LGBTIQA+ matters. He claimed that it was something close to his heart and something he would personally stand for his entire life then he shat on those words with a single move.


However what he did before making this move still is set in stone also. His LGBTIQA+ comments prior to this move did carry weight and no doubt did help and if his perceived stance prior to his move caused even one person to be more open minded or more tolerant then that is also on Henderson and he deserves kudos for that.

As a player for us, he went from being the guy I thought was lost on the pitch and that I wanted to see sold to then becoming the best Liverpool captain I have seen since the 1980s. That does not get taken away because of his move to Saudi.


He is the new Souness, a comment I made previously, in that he is a player with a big legacy at the club whose reputation has been tarnished by an action towards the end of his time with the club.

And I am under no illusions that the betrayal felt by anyone involved with what happened to the 97, their families, their friends and the Liverpool fanbase when it comes to the interview Souness gave is being felt just as greatly now by folk on the LGBTIQA+ side of things.


People can knock Henderson for his move and his apparant turning of the back on the LGBTIQA+. That is fine imo and I am one knocking him for that, but he is still going down as one of the best captains we ever had at the club and I will be quick to always say that too.

Someone made a point the other day that struck a chord with me about how if Mbappe did move there, the crazy spending spree PSG would go on and the impact on all other clubs. It's so true, as I still think everyone is paying the consequences of the Neymar deal and the impact that had on transfer fees. It did make me think about the bigger impact this Saudi league could have on European football, particularly us. Ignoring the immediate consequence of possibly losing our best player to PSG, if Saudi investment completely hyper-inflates the market, how long before FSG say "**** it, let's move on"? Even if we do get decent owners in, we still have to remain sustainable, but how difficult will this be with excessive transfer fees and many clubs not needing to sell, as they can offload their average players to these teams for record prices. Probably a bit hypocritical as the PL has been destroying other leagues for years and now the show could be on the other foot, but still...

Anyway, in short, f*ck you Hendo for ruining the club and destroying football.
