So Stanley played well into his 40s, goes to show how **** the English players were back then!...good to know that nothing's changed since!

Though a chunk of the 22 years for Stanley Matthews were when he was serving with the RAF during WWII and no International footy was being played.

So he did not play for England at all between 1940 and 1946 and only resumed playing for the national team in 1947.
