Its much harder to make an impression when the team has been hashed together.

I just don't know what position that Henderson is best suited to. If its centre midfield he needs to stay back and put the hours in to hone the defensive tackling side of his game.
Last night you could say that Morgan suffered from playing with Cole - as well as Yasil did last time with Cole. On the other hand - when it comes to Hendo, he has been in a weakend team before and dominated, he has been the carrying person in games last season.

I would prefer him to have a period like the one Pacheco has - where he most of the time is a succes with the ressies - and from time to time plays with the first team. To be below the pecking order in the first team and being played out of position (right back) to get a game, is so de-moralising him.

Not sure exactly what you're saying, whether you're agreeing or disagreeing. Sorry.

But yes I do think its a bit unfair for Morgan coming in to that team, starting the match and playing a difficult away european game with so little first team experience. He did alright though. Ideally he'd come on for 25 minutes of a premier league game when we're 2-0 up.

Another side point, re Cole, he clearly isn't match fit. You only get match fit by playing games. He was better and fitter yesterday than he was against Swansea. He may well be shot and washed up. Yet he would clearly benefit by a run of games to get to match fitness. Obviously we can't afford to carry passengers. So its the end game for him. I just think these days people have no patience. He gets a game and people expect him to perform straight away. When he doesn't, right you've had a chance **** off. Fowler used to be rusty after a lay off, it'd take a few game to get the sharpness back. It amazes me how few people these days take this into account. Its all you must perform for every minute of every game. Minor rant over.

I saw the game now. He played like he has potential, but with confidence issues. Same as the very first game I saw him play for us. And the numerous times in between. Zero progress in 18 months...not good and not what we need.

The fact that BR was ready to let him go to Fulham as a makeweight indicates the decision on his future has already been made.

to consider that his efforts in carrying the ball from defence are worthy... we could get a ups guy who will not only carry the ball, he will also get it signed for

making himself available for a pass is one thing, but almost every time he lays the ball straight back, then turns away and moves forward. he does nothing to support the man with the ball, and if the guy who is on the ball is being boxed in by the opposition he should look to give him and option to re-pass it. he just gives and goes, charging off without any consideration as to how the guy on the ball will handle the pressing players.

he might look good to the novice's eye as he is full of movement, but he is often moving away from the ball. he is adding completed easy passes and yards to his stats, but they count for very little. stats for stats sake are how mediocre players like this end up playing for top teams and then show themselves for the waste of space they truly are.

Fair point but that hasn't stopped the likes of Shelvey, Wisdom and Suso from impressing in the Europa and being rewarded with league games as a result. Also we saw Henderson go straight into the first team last season and I don't think his performance level has dropped considerably since he's playing with the youngsters.

How do you explain last year's form then? Rodgers has actually made some fairly positive comments about Henderson in public. He hasn't shown faith by playing him repeatedly but, in the end, you need Henderson to step up to the mark when he gets the opportunity. And he hasn't done that - or really suggested that he might have the potential to improve.

One of the most alarming things about Kenny's transfer dealings is not just misjudging talent, but the fact the players bought - excluding Luis and Coates - seem to lack mental strength, particularly Downing and Henderson. It just goes to should how important mentality is to making it as a top footballer.

This is my original post, first one on the thread on 13/8/2011:

I don't get it, what does he do exactly? A weird signing IMO i just don't see it. Much prefer Kuyt to start out right. Wish the lad the best of luck and hope he proves me very wrong but i just don't see him being a regular first teamer.
I do get it now and the answer is.... not very much whatsoever. If ever there was a "MEH" player, it is Jordan Henderson.

                      That's ridiculously unfair.

Henderson was perfectly capable of poor form last season without Rodgers. This season, well, what would you suggest the manager does? Play Henderson ahead of who? Rodgers has shown he'll give people a chance if they're on form and busting a gut to play. Nothing Henderson has done when he's been allowed on the pitch has shown why he deserves to play over a Shelvey or a Suso or whoever.

I like the lad, but nobody is responsible for Henderson's 'poor form'... if that's what it is rather than him just being a bit average... other than Henderson imo

He's a young player who def needs an arm around the shoulder, his confidence is shot as people have been slating him since day one in an lfc shirt which has affected him no doubt.

I won't give up on him till he plays in a good team that knows what their tactics are. Last night was a real mish mash of a team and performance...
God called it correctly he bottled it as he's low on confidence, but even still he had a better game than Joe Cole.

But the one thing BR could do is get Steve Bruce on the phone to find out how to get the best out of him.

Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours

                              So £13 million then
Add-ons are based on performances and he had over 35 starts last year so it will be definitely more than 13m.

Not sure about that at all.

We wanted to use him as a make -weight for Dempsey deal and the value we assigned at that time was around 4m

In addition, he is not regular any longer and quality of his performances have be average at best when he was given the chance to play, which will all put the downward pressure on his evaluation.

Also we have been very poor in selling any players that we didn't want on our books for any realistic value as of late and I'm not sure that trend will change for better.
