For me he struggled on the ball, fast technical games don’t suit him and he coughed up possession a lot (70% pass rate) by forcing balls. I noticed it watching the game and I was on his case from the comfort of the sofa
We are at a bit of a cross roads with him now - I think he is best suited as the 6 (Fab back up) and the 8 against certain opponents.
For the real high intensity games where you technique needs to be spot on (City, Spurs, Chelsea) I think he struggles as the right sided 8 - this is our creative outlet and he hasn’t got it. Elliott was much better at keeping the ball when he came on
I’ve made my thoughts clear about Hendo the footballer vs Hendo the captain/hood guy/leader etc - we’ve 10 excellent players and one decent one in Klopp’s preferred 11
Assuming Klopp's preferred XI looks something like
Alisson
TAA
Matip or Konate
VVD
Robertson
Fabinho
Thiago
Henderson
Salah
Darwin
Diaz
Then there are a few in there that we are hoping will be excellent players rather than being proven ones for us as of yet.
Henderson is past his peak yes, but he should be able to give us another two or three years in a Milner type role. For me I would love to see Barella or a player with a lot of his traits come in and be our starting RCM. Henderson then becomes the back up number 6 and 8.
Darwin we hope comes good and I personally think he will be safely regarded as excellent for us before this season ends, but right now he is potentially excellent.
Diaz is another that falls under the potentially excellent banner though the signs are very good. He ups his goal and/or assist output this season and we might have a guy able to operate at the levels of a prime Mane.
What is nuts about our current team is the number of genuine World Class players we have in the starting XI at the same time. Most great teams might have one or two, maybe three that are surrounded by good to very good players who work well as a unit.
But we have at least five or six that could be called world class without much arguement and another one or two who might well be world class, wiith all the WC players buying into the team ethic as much as the non WC ones.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I made the mistake of looking at a comp video from last night - ffs it’s brought back my old biases. He is technically very poor and when under pressure he can’t control/pass securely, he went back into the habit of stepping on the CBs toes to take the ball off them and pass square to the other one + he ****housed a few tackles
He should have the Milner utility role and see out the last 5/10 mins and lead the kids in the cups. Great captain but not good enough for us - his contract extension was a very bad decision

He would be brilliant for a west ham or everton at this stage. I think he is a good player to stop opposition players as opposed to impose himself on the game.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostI made the mistake of looking at a comp video from last night - ffs it’s brought back my old biases. I believe that if everyone was fit, then he would play against the top teams to help control the game but not against the lesser teams.
There are some decent midfielders out of contract next year that would make sense and should be achievable this summer. Tielemens, Laimer, Soler to name a few.

A sign of things to come when his first possession was a back pass to the keeper after 10 seconds. Starting the move that led to the manc's second goal was just a Chef's Kiss on top of an abject display.
I'm still shaking my head at the passage of player vs. Palace when he was running laterally with the ball from right to left, he had a man in space down the left but it required a left-footed pass; "Hendo" was rocking and creaking like an oil tanker on the high seas and couldn't bring himself to pass the ball with his left foot to the man in space, so he did a cumbersome 180 and played it safe. Terrible player.

It’s not like he doesn’t care and I have no doubt he’s his own biggest critic but time catches up with you. Our biggest issue is that we’ve built a midfield pool of aging or not robust players - yes we have 8 midfielders when they are all fit but I can’t believe our management team didn’t account for the injury record gif pretty much most of them. That is before you factor is age or quality.
I get on his case but it’s not his fault he is wheeled out every week, he could be carrying injuries etc. It’s also not his fault he got a contract extension - any player is entitled to push for that
My issue here is with Klopp and the back room team. Klopp is the best thing to happen to Liverpool since arguably Shankley but if he had one weakness you’d say it was he lacks a ruthless streak - he is loyal to his players and that’s probably why he gets so much from them.
A ruthless manager bins Divock after the CL, sells Ox last season, sells Naby, doesn’t extend Hendo, doesn’t extend Milner etc. I know it’s easy to say that in hindsight but I think it was his ultimate downfall at Dortmund. This team, his team have won the lot but I still think we are a few trophies short of where we deserve to be and a lot of that is because we make do…… we’ll get by, find solutions etc. City buy solutions and yes they have cheated their way to the top but now they seem to manage the market well. They sell well and buy well - fresh blood motivates those who are competing for the same spot and keeps the hunger with new players
I was burning it all down last night but I’ve progressed to lack of spending today - tomorrow I might be ok again
