Say what you will about Hendo's performances on the pitch, the stuff he does is exemplary (or so I have read).

And that is not a critique of Trent. I feel he is probably a bit young to take on the burden of being a mother hen to the entire squad. I think he should just concentrate on getting back to his best first. Especially considering Milner left who would have been Hendos backup.

I would be fine with him being a vice if Klopp thought he was ready for that.

It may just be my new perception of what in means to be captain since Henderson took it on, and I just think it is a huge responsibility for someone that young.
I agree that there's definitely a perceived element of Henderson off the pitch being exemplary.

That's why it wouldn't surprise me that he'd be kept as club captain for the final two years of his contract. VVD becomes the vice-captain on paper, but is the captain on the pitch. I think TAA should be third in line (or he might be anyway in terms of seniority).

We might be looking at a couple more years before Trent takes up a captaincy or the vice captaincy role.

Gerrard took it on at about the same age?

All our captains throughout the years bring something different, Redknapp, Fowler, Hyppia , Gerrard then Hederson all different personalities that broght their own strengths and weaknesses

Think it would make TTA personally.

I'd say the launch of the The After Academy initiative shows he has the awareness and maturity to inspire others on and off the pitch.

And his "can't be bothered defending properly if you guys can't provide midfield protection" attitude?

Trent doesn't strike me as a natural captain, although I guess nor was Gerrard - but he was more of a firebrand and lead-by-example sort. I'd give it to VVD or Ali for now.

Not for me. Mainly because you want your captain to be, if possible, an outfield player to be able to talk to the ref and to be able to communicate more easily with teammates and the manager on the sideline.

I know there have been other keepers that were captains, but I think it limits the effectiveness of the role of captain a tad.

Gerrard for me was not a good captain at all. He had plenty of big moments that dragged the team along with him but those he would have had regardless of the armband.

He also had plenty of mardy moments where he seemed to sulk on the pitch and you cannot have that from a captain if the role is to be worth anything to the team.

Henderson for me, despite not being as good a player as peak Gerrard, has been a far superior and far more effective captain of LFC than Gerrard was.

Gerrard for me was a captain in the mould of Kane, Ince, Maguire etc. Far better player than any of them but in that the appointment made the role of captain more about the individual than the team imo.

                  Has to be.

Trent has enough to think about this season

                    Virgil definitely.

Robbo shouldn't be discounted either. Although tbh he will need to pull up his socks a bit. Hopefully he gets a nice holiday now and comes back as the best lb in the league again

Yeah Virgil or Robbo for me too going forward. They are both nailed on starters for the majority of matches whereas Hendo might only play 40-50% of matches if we get the required midfield reinforcements that we hope for.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Both Virgil & Robbo are captains at international level already which is a big plus.

All good teams have multiple captains on the pitch. A cliche but true. Ali, VVD, Robbo, Mo are all great leaders and would make good captains.

I would be tempted to give it to Trent personally. Just something that feels right about a local lad having it. It just means more.

It is a tricky/awkward one taking it off Henderson though, he's been a great leader over the years, but I think it is time now.

Being a good leader is knowing when its time. Hyypia gracefully gave up the armband for Gerrard when the time came. Personally I thought Gerrard should have waited, but Hyypia didnt even blink.

Ali for captain. Virgil needs to concentrate on upping his game as he was woeful at times last season. The constant backing off attackers needs to stop. He's too laid back to be captain. Ali demands respect. Most consistent player too.

Needs to be an senior outfield player.

                                VVD for me.
