    Well made.

With Milner going, who picks up the vice-captaincy, assuming Henderson stays? I'd imagine it would be Virg, which would make sense as he seems to play almost every game for us. Or does Mo have a good claim to it as well?

Virg is already a vice captain

If Hendo is a squad player next season which imo he should be, then he shouldn't be our captain. IMO the captain should always be a starter, it's a hugely important role. VVD for me.

Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Based on seniority, you're looking at VVD, Alisson, Salah, Robertson and TAA.

FWIW, I think Klopp will keep Henderson as the "club" captain, and although VVD will be down as vice-captain, he'll be the main guy on the pitch.

Yeah, Id personally give it to Trent. Hes the future of this club now. Could be our captain for the next 6-7 years.

I'd have no issue with Trent being captain either, local lad too. It's a good shout.

Yeah, there needs to be a succession plan here. Hendo has more than delivered and it would be good for him to be able to mentor whomever is next.

Trent is a great shout, and it could be the making of him.

                      Couldn't agree more.

VvD, Salah, Roberston & Alisson will be the senior players that the rest of the team will be looking up to along with Hendo & TAA while TAA & maybe Ibou will be groomed to succeed those guys eventually.

Would let TAA regain his form on a regular basis rather than giving him the armband.

Being captain is worthless if he has a season like last season where he his below par for two thirds of it. If anything him getting the armband and then having a poor season would be potentially be problematic.

Course it depends on whether or not we want an old fashioned dressing room and on pitch leader type captain or we want one that is a figurehead.

TAA as captain now would be the latter imo, but a season or two as a vice captain would allow him the time to hopefully grow into being an on and off the field leader and organiser.

How much importance the captain's armband carries is really down to the manager of a club and the sort of environment he wants to foster imo and you tend to be able to see that difference at other clubs.

You can have a Kane type captain that the media will fawn over and that is a captaincy built on personal ego or you can have a guy who is a leader amongst the leaders at a club, who the other players will listen to, who can talk to refs, who will be a leader at the training ground etc.

Maybe TAA can grow into being the latter, but to date there has not been a lot of signs of it on the pitch.

And if being local is to be a factor, then Jones if he, on a regular basis, continues to play as well as he finished last season then should be in with a shout to be a vice captain and potential future captain.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I dont think Trent has the maturity to take on all the extra responsibilities that should come with being the captain.

Maybe he should be vice captain to vvd for a couple of years.

Its a "good" problem when you have a few leaders out on the pitch.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

I'm not sure what you base that on tbh, what do you mean by maturity ?

Based on how well he's played since taking on the new role for us you could argue he actually thrives with the responsibility.

I'm not really sure how much it really matters though

Yeah, let him develop at a natural pace without the direct responsibility but let him see the responsibility that comes with the captaincy indirectly by being shown the ropes on the QT or whatever.

I mean in all of the off the pitch matters.

Say what you will about Hendo's performances on the pitch, the stuff he does is exemplary (or so I have read).

And that is not a critique of Trent. I feel he is probably a bit young to take on the burden of being a mother hen to the entire squad. I think he should just concentrate on getting back to his best first. Especially considering Milner left who would have been Hendos backup.

I would be fine with him being a vice if Klopp thought he was ready for that.

It may just be my new perception of what in means to be captain since Henderson took it on, and I just think it is a huge responsibility for someone that young.
