Not every player in a team needs to be showstopper.
Whatever Ajax see in him, I doubt they're expecting him to be Kevin De Bruyne.

He was a decent water carrier who could play a pass,, chip in with goals now and again, could play the system with intelligence and constantly geed the team up. He was a great player for us,all teams need a bit of glue. His legs might stand up to the Dutch league.

He was but isn’t. The game isn’t as quick in Holland but the players are and he’ll get rinsed by younger midfielders running passes him. I think his benefit to Ajax is more from a leadership and dressing room perspective, something that their current situation suggests they’re missing.

They've turned things around in recent weeks. New manager has sorted a number of their issues and they're up to 5th in the league.

I can't wait to hear his first interview and see how he morphs the accents, will he go all "Schteeve"

This for me, when we were at our best the two seasons when we ran city close and the one where we won it and the runs to the CL finals and when we one that was where and how Hendo excelled.

He’s moved on and so have we.

I am not in anyway saying otherwise. He was awesome for us at his peak. My point is more he is being hyped over there beyond recognition.

Even at his best over here he had plenty of critics. A decent water carrier shouldn;t sell more shirts than Van Basten

Hendo didn’t excel in the 2021/22 season. He was costly for us, especially off the ball. Thinking games against Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, City.

I don’t blame him though. Ultimately that falls with Klopp for not replacing him as starter sooner.

It didn’t say he’d sold more shirts than Van Basten, just that Hendersons shirt was the fastest selling shirt in the clubs history.

Given that Ajax don’t ever buy household names, it’s not that hard to believe.

                          This is confirmation bias.

We got 92 points and only lost 2 games that season, he played in most of them (35 out of 38). We scored 94 goals in the League and only let in 26, what, despite him?

We also got to the CL final with him playing most games and should have won the final. Henderson played in 12 games. Lots of class players will never play in a CL final.

Oh, and he lifted the FA Cup and the League cup. Hendo played 5 games in each. Somehow we one both with him playing.

                          I reckon he did alright.

                            Yeh my mistake. Fair point

It’s not conformation bias, it’s objective judgement. It was also stated in the aftermath of these respective performances, so it’s not hindsight or revisionism either. We repeatedly blew the our lead to Brentford. We blew 2 goal leads to Brighton and Chelsea. Our midfield was poor off the ball in all these games (and others) and Henderson’s performance was a standout issue.

Yes we had an outstanding season overall, but we can still point to reasons that we dropped points that contributed to missing out on the title.

Henderson, particularly in the first half of the that season, struggled. He certainly didn’t excel.

                                In your opinion.

I think there were multiple reasons we dropped points. I don’t think Hendo solely carries the blame for any of them, he’s always been a convenient scapegoat.
