FWIW I dont really know what Rodgers means by 'Dominate the space' Especially considering I dont think a football team in history has won a game by being better at space.Originally posted by Lecter View PostNeither did I
The same as the old 'Space never scored a goal' argument about zonal v man to man marking at corners?
What Rodgers means is that everyone knows how Arsenal play, it's been the same for the last 10 years, they don't play down the sides from deep they build up centrally through Corzola then try to get one of their wider players in between the lines from out to in, be it Sanchez, Ramsey or whoever the 2 wider players in their 4231 don't play wide, they drift in to try and overload zone 14 (image a rectangle shape maybe 20 wide by 10 deep central outside the 18 yard box)
The width is then provided by their full backs and they look to combine centrally through the overload to play into Giroud or in to the full back wider.
The variation comes in the last 15 mins when Ox and Walcott come on.
The 'space' Rodgers wants to control is from their full backs out into Corzola hence the high aggressive press and the area in and around our box - we tried to win it early, if we couldn't then once Arsenal got into our defensive third we were very compact as a back 4 with our wide players doubling back tracking the full backs.
So win the ball back early and high or sit deep, stay compact then attack the transition going into Benteke or Coutinho and breakingThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Thank you. Can't believe people couldn't even grasp the meaning of dominating space. Surely it means we cede possession but effectively patrol the spaces between the lines and intercept/press for counter attacking opportunities.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostThe same as the old 'Space never scored a goal' argument about zonal v man to man marking at corners?

I might be wrong but it's what I first thought. Was muß, das muß.

Yep, look to press and win it back high first, if Arsenal get through our first line then stay compact making them play around the outside not through the central areas.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostThank you. Intercept passes then break through Coutinho, Benteke and Firmino. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

exactly, well saidOriginally posted by Nigey View PostHope he gets sacked and we can move on. Man can do no right eh.
I'm not going to lie Nige, I find his lack of humility quite annoying when things are going well.
The word I'm looking for escapes me now, but he does over-state any positives to the point where it gets nauseating.Last edited by Maxiedge; 28-08-15, 10:16 AM.

I agree actually, those comments only build pressure and come back to bite him and us.Originally posted by Maxiedge View Postexactly, well said
