John Barnes has his sights set on being the next Liverpool legend to return to the club, revealing he would love to help out in a coaching capacity if asked.

"I would most definitely take the job" he told Goal.com. "I played for Liverpool and working there would be a great way for me to show my appreciation to the club."

Brendan Rodgers is keen to recruit as many club legends as possible, last week Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and Rob Jones were given roles coaching and mentoring Academy players, whilst Kenny Dalglish also returned to the club in a director's role.

It's a philosophy Barnes shares, as he explained; “It is the modern truth that we now lack legends that can identify with the club. I feel that being part of the system would benefit the club a lot since I understand the culture. The reality is that players come and go, but the club remains and that is why it is important to always protect the brand of the club.”

Sign him up he can teach Sterling and Ibe a few things link

Barnes should be in some sort of ambassadorial/spokesman role for the club. Talks a lot of sense, even though he talks extremely fast

I think we should careful though about how many we are going to bring back, IMO they should have to be able to bring something to the table.

Barnes to me is the greatest player to have ever played for this club, he was a joy to watch.

            So silky.

I'm going to watch some clips of him now actually.

Agree totally, but very few (if any) can bring more than JB.

His managerial career hasn't been great, but maybe he's a better coach.
There is no point having legends running around the training ground telling kids what they used to do if they can't teach them how theybdidvit.

Beautiful bit in bold from Rodgers.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has played down Harry Redknapp's assertion that he agreed to become his assistant if he got the England job.

In his recently-published autobiography, QPR boss Redknapp claimed the Northern Irishman accepted his proposal, which was made last year when the then Tottenham manager was hot favourite to become Fabio Capello's successor.

However, Rodgers said it never got as far as that, although he admits he would have considered the offer.

"My version was that in April, when I was manager at Swansea, Harry had asked me after the game when we played," said Rodgers.

"He pulled me aside and it was a unique conversation because he was obviously very confident - as was the nation - he was going to be offered the national team job.

"Here was a Premier League manager asking another Premier League manager to come and work with him at the European Championship.

"It was a quick conversation. I was aware he was very keen for me to team up with him if he was given the role.

"There was no decision either way. Out of the respect I have for Harry I was going to consider it.

"He is a wonderful chemist, he knows what he wants from a team, knows the types of players and knows the exciting type of football and I think he wanted someone to come and implement those ideas.

"There was no answer yes or no but I would have considered it for him.

"Obviously at the end of it all it was irrelevant as the job was given to Roy (Hodgson) and he has done a brilliant job.

"I was really happy at Swansea. I had spoken to them about the possibility but it was something that after the appointment was made there were no further thoughts on it.

"I saw that if it was to happen it would be a unique opportunity to show British players could play football: they are technically and tactically very strong they just need that support and confidence to go and play that way."

I wouldn't offer it to him now - maybe at the end of the season and dependant on where we finish.
