He can say a par score all he wants but champs league was the aim and the expectation.... we bought badly and we have been tactically naive too many times this season. Last summer should have been the perfect window for us but for whatever reason it's turned out to be a shocker. Disastrous first 3 months of the season, Out of Champs League with a whimper, out of Europa League with a whimper, Bottled the 3 crucial big games over the last few weeks including an embarrassing semi final.
There's been some bright spots this season with Can's first half of the season albeit it out of position, Coutinho & our great run we went on but whatever way you look at it.. it's been bitterly disappointing as a whole.
Not in the sack Rodgers brigade just yet but certainly not happy at all, we have been unlucky with injuries but if we had of bought better players that wouldn't have been such an issue...only ourselves to blame there. Rather wait until the end of the season and see how we finish the campaign before I say whether i think he should be gone but I can see why some want him out.
good post...
brendan also said we would "absolutely" qualify for the chanpions league when asked around November....
He is playing a dangerous game imo. Suggesting that reaching the semi finals of both cups is an achievement is a little bit silly. In reality if you look at both cup runs we didnt exactly play amazing football.....the 56-55 win on penalties against boro was hardly good stuff....and the 2 nil alls at home to bolton and blackburn didnt exactly give anyone a ****in hard on either....
i would have kept brendan but if he isnt careful then he could go the way of houllier in losing all credibility....

We should generate more than £45 million by selling our unwanted playersOriginally posted by marcus50bucks View PostLiverpool owners give Brendan Rodgers £45m kitty despite poor season

Rodgers will, however, find that his summer transfer budget is less than half what it was 12 months ago, at around £45m, with strengthening the forward line the priority for the Liverpool boss.

Rodgers is right, 5th is par for the course.
If you go backwards as a club you have to be aware that if others improve you're in trouble. And that's exactly what's happened. Had Man Utd been as ****e as last year we'd be 4th. In all fairness, there wasn't too much to choose between ourselves, City, Chelsea & Arsenal. We may have demolished the Gunners but they were weak mentally and we were flying. They still beat us the following week anyway in the cup.
This year I think our squad is much better, and that's what we spent the money in the summer. What we forgot was that without Suarez we become a a worse first XI, and then this has been compounded by essentially missing a fit and firing Sturridge for the whole season. Who when on form is easily in the top 5 strikers in the league. And this paragraph here is exactly why Rodgers may very well keep his job.
I don't know whose idea it was to not prioritise signing a big name player to replace Luis. But who remembers Rodgers quotes from last year? Did he say I want to split the money up and sign as many lads as possible? Or did he say he wanted all the money to go on key players that would slot straight into the first team? He said the latter, but that isn't what we got.
It is my honest opinion that Rodgers has been dealt a dud hand. After three years I'm getting cold feet if I'm honest. I want to win the title. Finishing par for the course isn't acceptable. We know we have to perform above average and if we don't I want things to change so we can. I don't support Rodgers, I support LFC. If he gets sacked so we can try a new way, **** it. I don't care. If we stick because he shows promise, I understand.
But what happened last summer can never happen again. If we sign top players like Lovren & they don't work out I don't actually care. Not all signings come off. But as long as we are attempting to sign first team players I'm happy enough. **** the potential. We have enough of that and they may or may not come off. Let's sign someone who is good enough now.Forwards.......

Nobody else but Brendan, the committee or whoever, thought that Lovren was worth £20m. The Southampton fan forums went wild with excitement...
If he was really a top player, then teams like arsenal and Manchester United would have been in for gin. Liverpool were the only club stupid enough to pay for Lovren. He is actually a worse signing that downing, Carroll or Charlie Adam in my view....because we will be stuck with the guy.
Getting back to Brendan, he has been brilliant at bringing through young players. He has been ****e at identifying and purchasing players. If I was FSG then I would talk to him, sign maybe Milner ings and konoplyanka for two thirds of **** all and another midfielder and a defender (and a striker if sterling is sold) and give him another season. Tell him the priority is the league and the cups are to be used to develop Rossiter, Sinclair, ojo, teixeria if he gets over his injury and Harry Wilson. See how Brendan gets on with that.....

TBH, I've started feeling a bit ****ed off with Rodgers this past week after reading on here and the stuff he's said today has topped it off for me. He did initially have my backing but now I'm not so sure.
4th place should never be the aim regardless of whether we're par for where we are. Getting to 2 semi's is all well and good but let's not mask anything here, it's been a poor season overall with some shocking performances and some even more shocking purchases. Balotelli and Lovren have been ****ing atrocious and there have been others.
Need to get going next season and improve massively. I like BR but he talks a lot of **** sometimes and the way the players performed last weekend has pissed me off massively. Who would come in though this is the thing? I really can't see the likes of Klopp and Ancelloti wanting to manage us as we're wank.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

Agree with your post but a touch of Hodgson in those quotes though.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostHe's not that far wrong in all fairness. We have the 5th most expensive squad (I think), 5th wage bill etc.
That said it's still difficult to not feel disappointed by this season.

He can't. He is contractually obliged to do press conferences. Then he get's asked a question about whether he will be at LFC next season...Originally posted by danperkins View PostI like Rodgers but he does like the sound of his own voice... that's all good when you're winning. He has to say something. Then he gets bashed by LFC fans. You can like him or not, FSG will decide based on results vs their long term plan.

You can criticise him for many things, but it's very clear he knows these two are atrocious. Balotelli barely plays even when available. Toure and Can were selected over Lovren for along time, but with Sakho injured, Skrtel suspended and Toure useless, he had little choice than to select Lovren. I think you'll see him benched swiftly when Sakho returns.Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostBalotelli and Lovren have been ****ing atrocious and there have been others.

Yep, Sturridge's injuries this season are only half the issue, and an excuse I'm getting tired of hearing. A major contribution to our problem is the fact that we've spent the best part of £40m on our other forwards, one who's in France, and the other 3 who may as well be there with him.Originally posted by captainfog View PostI think that is a weak excuse. A dismal FA Cup semi-final exit to Aston Villa last weekend, after back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United derailed their top-four chances, led to speculation about the Northern Irishman's tenure - particularly in light of the availability of Jurgen Klopp who leaves Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Sunday's Wembley reverse meant Rodgers became the first Liverpool manager since Phil Taylor in 1959 to not win a trophy in his first three years in charge.
However, the 42-year-old, is adamant there is no-one who could replace him.
"I don't think there is anyone better, that is the reality of how I see it," he said.
"Whenever you are at a club like Liverpool you will have many names mentioned.
"There is absolutely no problem with that, it is something that happens all the time if you lose a couple of games.
"You had former managers linked with the job before and that will continue whether you are good, bad or indifferent.
"Three months ago I was a tactical genius and performing to a good level and we lost a couple of games, some important games, and maybe were not so good but I feel the same now with what I did back then.
"I have a strong relationship with the owners and the partnership who run the club.
"They understand, like when we spoke at the beginning, this was going to be a process, this is not a group of ready-made players who were used to winning.
"I've not taken over a machine that was winning trophies for 10 years.
"That is something we are clear on but of course we want to be better next year."
Rodgers feels last season's title near-miss was down to a number of factors aligning and their runners-up finish was actually over and above what had been expected.
He believes the current campaign is a more realistic representation of the level the club is at.
"If you take the emotion out of last weekend this was a team which overachieved last year," he added.
"We weren't expected to get into the top four and that same team had a world-class striker (Luis Suarez) in it and someone on fire in terms of Daniel Sturridge, who has the potential to be that (world class) when when fit and playing.
"We have lost those players (Suarez to Barcelona and Sturridge to injury).
"We sit in fifth place, having reached two cup semi-finals, which is probably on par with where we are at.
"The ambition is to be much greater than that and we have to be planning forward and that means bringing in players in the summer, that is something which is well under way.
"This year was an opportunity, next year will be an even greater opportunity to kick on and keep improving."
Worringly for Rodgers, there is still no sign of a return for Sturridge, who has been sidelined with a hip problem for the last two matches after missing the first five months of the season with thigh and calf problems.
"We are unsure. He is certainly not available for the weekend," said the Reds boss when asked if there was a timescale for Sturridge's comeback.
