Yeah I know, and if the Mancs hadn't backed themselves into a corner with LVG then I'd say he was in the same boat. Miss out on top 4 after spending all that cash and you're in trouble.

It's not like we finished 7th last year. We were supposed to be building off a 2nd place finish. Many on this forum disagree, and that's fair, but I think if you finish 2nd and spend 120m then you've got to stay in the top 4 otherwise you're going to have some difficult questions to answer.

And no, I don't think losing Suarez is much of an excuse when you've had 120 million quid to spend on replacing him and/or strengthening the squad.

    It's all opinions though

But also they haven;t lost any significant players since they were champions. Despite their aberration on paper they should be doing better than us on an equal spend.

I think they have a lot of very **** players in their squad. The likes of Jones, Smalling, Screech, Young, Rojo, Blinde, Shaw.... are all pretty ****. And that's just to name a few.

United are doing better because they have a good squad and haven't had European football this season. Rodgers will be here next season, even if we don't qualify for the CL. There is no doubt about it. And we will challenge for the title next season.
          Are we winning?

Said it before, get Origi in, Ibe back, sign Sterling/Hendo and get one of Lacazette/Vietto and I can't see why we won't be challenging for the league next season.

Rodgers' style of football will blow away lesser teams, just like Chelsea did early this season. Chelsea/City can't really strengthen any more unless they sign Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, Suarez, Neymar. Arsenal can't strengthen much more than what they have.

So that leaves Utd to strengthen and us. And Rodgers plays better football than LvG historically has.
            One tit for another.

Just like we did to Spurs, Arsenal and United last season.

I think slight tweaking as opposed to major squad surgery in the summer is required. I would also sign Milner on a free too as I think he can play in many positions and add some big game experience to our squad. If the rumoured £12m buy-out clause of Vietto's contract is true, then it is too good to miss out on and we should be all over that.

Coupled with the fact that our players will have a summer off as opposed to going to the world cup / euros, then hopefully we will be lucky with injuries and we can come out of the blocks from the 1st day next season.

I am hoping that next season will be better for the likes of Emre Can, Markovic and Moreno too. And it would be a great bonus if Jon Flanagan can come back and get a few games before the season is over and get a good pre-season under his belt then as well.

I would also give Andre Wisdom a go in the squad. I know he hasn't exactly torn up the league at WBA but in reality he will be a better player for going there and his flexibility will probably stand him in good stead when trying to get game time. If we sold him we would probably not get a whole lot so he should get next season at least.

For me, if we don't get top-4, then although it is a step back, then it could be a case of "one step backwards, two steps forward" because our team would have a much better chance of winning the league next season. With the full week in between most games, then you would have to feel that we would get back to something close to last season with Brendan having all that lovely coaching time he keeps going on about. The big plus though would be the rest time in between games - that extra energy would help the lads with their pressing game.

But you know what else, the guys like Henderson, Sakho, Emre Can, Coutinho, Sturridge, Sterling - they will believe that they are Champions League players. They will have had a taste of playing for LFC in the CL and the motivation levels will go up a lot if we don't play in it next season. Our team is young and will certainly get better - if Brendan can instill a motivation and hunger into their game, then it could be very special in the next 2 or 3 seasons....

Our current 'wobble' indicates to me that although no major squad surgery is required we could do with a couple of older heads in the team to help maintain performance levels when our younger lads have off days.

We should be all over Milner.

The problem is if we dont make CL, we are still in the Europa league. So we still wont have a midweek rest.

See I think we do need a bit of a major shuffle....our squad is poor, there are far too many people at the club who don't offer or contribute enough....be it due to ability, form, injuries

                        Flanagan
                        Johnson
                        Enrique
                        Lovren
                        Manquillo
                        Markovic
                        Lambert
                        Borini
                        Ballotelli

That's just for starters....if three or four of those players stepped up and performed it would be a huge help. Not one of them have given us anything this season....and that's before we look a little deeper and say a few others have struggled at times as well

Add to that our loan players....aspas, Alberto, Coates, assaidi

For me we are at least four good players short, that's bare minimum

We do that and we're more than likely going have another 3 or 4 months of turmoil at the start of the season.

I'd sell the lot of those players instantly and probably just keep Flanagan.

I've not said sell all those players....just that we clearly need at least four good players to come in.....a right back, centre back, centre mid (in fact arguably two centre mids when you look at Lucas injuries/Allen ability and gerrard leaving) and a striker who gets goals.....

                              So five.

And we have at least 14 players or so on those books who are currently giving us **** all. At present for me we only have the following....

Mignolet, who was shocking the first half of the season and part of the reason we were so bad but he has at least turned it round and has been much better
                              Skrtel
                              Sakho
                              Can, albeit out of position
Moreno, though he's looking a bit weary now
                              Henderson
Lucas, just scraping it on the list cause when he plays he's been good, but he clearly has some fitness injuries
Allen...scrapes it on to list due to a few decent performances
Gerrard, scrapes it on list because he clearly can still contribute
                              Lallana
                              Coutinho, prob our best player
Sterling, though he needs to sort his head out
Sturridge, despite being injured all season, he's are only proper finisher
Ibe I'll let him scrape onto the list cause the few games he had he looked good and we are missing him

So what's that, 14 players who imo have contributed this season...some with questions marks, and the likes of gerrard defo gone, we clearly need to improve this

Personally, I'd keep Flanagan, lovren (begrudgingly because of the money we spent and I'm not sure we have the budget to replace) Markovic, still young and does have ability...but yeah I'd sell the rest and when you add gerrard to the list it looks a bit grim
