Or we use the EL to gain crucial european experience that we're lacking to take over to the CL?Originally posted by frank the tank View Posti get that but for me we should use the europa to get the young / fringe players experience and not take it too seriously - especially the away games....What do you mean it could've been anyone? Given Rodgers awful record in Europe we won't be in the Europa League for long if we're in it next season so I wouldn't worry too much about thatOriginally posted by magicalbarnes View PostThe problem is if we dont make CL, we are still in the Europa league. So we still wont have a midweek rest.
For me our biggest need is midfield general who tackles well, has composure on the ball and sprays the ball around accurately (such as a Vierra or a Souness).
We have midfielders who play well against lesser teams but Rodgers' terrible record against the big 4 indicates that the players we have in the middle of the park aren't good enough against the top teams in the Premier League.
A midfield general to play alongside Henderson is the top priority for me during the summer transfer window (and no I've no idea who that could be before anyone asks
).

You think that if we signed that player then it would lead BR to change the formation to a 2 man midfield??? Maybe even to a 4-2-3-1 - with sterling and markovic operating wide and Coutinho as the number 10 behind Sturridge??

Here's the formation you posted in the United post match thread:Originally posted by frank the tank View PostYou think that if we signed that player then it would lead BR to change the formation to a 2 man midfield??? ------------------------MIGNOLET------------------------
-------EMRE CAN-------SKRTEL-------SAKHO------------
--------------------------LUCAS--------------------------
MARKOVIC----HENDERSON------ALLEN--------STERLING
------------------------COUTINHO------------------------
------------------------STURRIDGE-----------------------
The midfield general I'm talking about would take the place of Allen in this formation.

While we certainly did spend about that much, I think there are several issues with viewing it quite so simplistically and I don't think FSG will. Incomings are relevant, no desire to go back to Rafa-style net & gross spend arguments but our latest accounts show a reduction in wages a a % of income, a reduction in loss on players etc, and then there's obviously the Suarez fee (part of which could be argued was because of the way he became world class under Rodgers) things FSG will definitely be aware of and consider as relatively sound management which meant our spend was within affordable limits and may not have led to massive losses on many of those brought in either.Originally posted by captainfog View PostI think it is. If we finish the season limply and end up a significant amount of points behind 4th then I think he'll be sacked. You don't get much wiggle room when you've spent 120 million quid.
I don't think they are silly enough either to view top 4 as a fundamental requirement every single season in what is a highly competitive league in which each season a 1 or 2 teams with equal or greater resources than us will miss out if we make it.
Also well, I have no desire to get into committee/Rodgers arguments either, but would he be held responsible alone for the result of the spending? I doubt it myself.
I very strongly believe that without a total disaster in the last 8 games Rodgers will be here next season. He (and the committee) absolutely cannot repeat the same errors that have previously been made this summer and if we do I think he will suffer for it, but I don't think it at all likely he will be sacked this summer if/when we finish 5th.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Hopefully it's better than the listless passionless ****e served up on SundayOriginally posted by BigChief View PostI don't know about everyone else but I'm really excited to see what Rodgers pulls out of the bag for the next 8 games. He's always got a plan and does notoriously well at the end of a season than the beginning. What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

it would be crazy to get rid of Brendan Rodgers in the summer. We are a young team with great potential and he has proved that he is the man to make young players get better......
I can't wait to see Emre Can, Markovic and Jordan Ibe next season. To see how they get better and more effective under Brendans guidance....
For me, if there was a lessons learned session in the summer, it would probably focus on the signings from last summer. The root causes are possibly:
1. We signed too many players and it was always going to be difficult to integrate so many at one time.
2. We panic-bought with Balotelli.
3. We didn't sign anyone that could slot in to where Suarez played - and as a result we were forced to change formation.
What this should result in is that we only buy 3 or 4 players (as well as welcome some of our loanees back).
I think that we have so much potential to get better and better over the next few seasons. It would be silly to start again with a new manager.

Quality over quantity this summer.
