I love listening to Brendan. Most people can't stomach it but there's always more than enough in there for me to see football in a different way, a way that works. I've tried a few things he's done with my useless young 5 a side team. There was a glimpse of surprise by the way they performed momentarily, but they soon forgot and got back to their same old sh*t.

Even in that interview above I didn't realise Sterling would never be played wide again. I guess his reasons make sense and rules out him as an Ibe replacement.
    One tit for another.

We should have got out of that CL group with ease but we were were terrible domestically at the time and in Europe. We got our **** together at home and still went out of the Europa at the first hurdle. I'd like to think that was deliberate but I don't know.
We could be facing more pain in Europe next season, but if we get into the group stage and a top four I'm good for the time being. I have more confidence now that he'll crack Europe in the next couple of seasons. There are so many lessons to take from our first half of the season.

Because there is evidence that we will struggle in Europe and none to the contrary.

Past performance is not an indicator of future returns. You know that from your IFA days.

And it has been demonstrated this season in the league.

We went out of Europe on penalties. It's not evidence of anything.

Most of our games in Europe were also played when we were struggling in the league we lost (on pens) to a side that doesn't concede many goals at home.

That doesn't really give much of a benchmark to work with and really it's complete guesswork on how we'll do in Europe next season either positively or negatively

An ex IFA that makes perfect sense now

I've never been an IFA and this is football not the stock market and past performance is definitely an indicator.

We were rubbish in Europe in his first season and were knocked out during a good domestic run and this year we got knocked out at the same stage during a good domestic run. On top of that all three of Rodgers seasons we have struggled to find out feet in the first half of the season - see stats someone else posted. Everything points to us struggling in a European qualifying round early in the season.

I'm not saying things can't be different, but until he breaks the pattern why would you assume anything else? In three years nothing has changed, maybe it will be 4th year lucky.

We weren't rubbish in the first half of last season. We were top at Christmas.

If you're unsure why we have struggled in the first half of this season, and in Rodgers' first, then I give up.

                    Tied adviser?

You will never give up, just like me, we'll go and on and on in our relentless and selfless quest to change the minds of people we don't know.

Tomkins made a similar point recently. There is no doubt our record in Europe is pretty poor, but our CL form was no worse than our league form this season, so you can't really blame it on European naivety, we were just crap. Then it's hard to know exactly how serious we have taken the UEFA cup, it's certainly wasn't a main priority for us, as much as we wanted to win it. Would we have went out to Besiktas if Hednerson or Coutinho travelled, or would we have left them behind if it was a CL game?

That’s not excusing his record BTW, he has to be held accountable, however if we do make it into the CL next year, I don’t think his current record in Europe is necessarily an accurate indicator of how we’ll play next time.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I've never been anything to do with financial advice! I used to work in product development and helped design and launch investment funds and insurance products.

Look at the stats Dom. Average points have been significantly down in the first half of every season. We were top at Christmas and 5th by new years or something daft last year. Its a fact we have not been as good in the first half of every season. Its also a fact we haven't been very good in Europe. Add the two together and CL qualification wouldn't be a shoe in.

Only 2 seasons in Europe. First one he played kids, second one overall form was poor apart from for our one Europa League tie.

We can't have struggled too much in the first half of Rodgers second season, given that we were top at Christmas.

Every half season Sturridge is fit we play well. He wasn't there first half of Rodgers first season, or this season and they are the only two blemishes on his record.

Keep Sturridge fit and we win the league.
