And that's a big thorny issue.

If he does remain manager next season then 5th and domestic semi-finals cannot be seen as success or par; he will need to do more.
I think something to be remembered is how badly we fared when we had no plan of what to do next post-Rafa. Even Benitez partisans were at a point where there was a feeling something had to change (not necessarily the manager obviously) but the club didn't have anything that looked like a reasoned direction in mind.

Getting rid of Rodgers because this season has been a disappointment only makes sense if there is some reason to feel the alternative is better and won't require another overhaul of everything behind the scenes.

You could make that argument everytime you consider changing manager

If there is a viable alternative that is available (by that I mean would actually choose us) then its something we must explore

The last time the club had something in place before sacking the manager was when we signed Rafa, we had him in place in the March before we sacked Houllier

The second point is key. If due to Rodgers good performance for parts of this season we haven't got a plan in place a paniced or ill prepared choice is likely to be worse than continuing as we are.

And as a club we're in exactly the same place for managers as we are players.
I'm sure Klopp would come to manage us, but not before he's clarified if Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal (just in the PL) want him first as well.

Same as Depay (again, just an example) I'm sure he'd sign for us but he isn't going to until his agent has check if the other 4 want him first., if they do he'll go there.

In the context of who else is available/who would actually choose to manage us then Rodgers isn't far wrong with his statement of being the best man for the job

Klopp is a funny one, I think he might have some crazy notion that we are where he should be

Don't know why I feel that I just do, I am sure he would check things out elsewhere but I think he might plump for us
