I think there will be a few players on the move in the Summer - Lacazzette, Icardi & Vietto to name 3 that if we could get a hold of would be great but even if they're out of our reach esp Lacazzette who you'd imagine someone like Madrid will be very interested in it might well open up other transfers for someone like Benzema or Higuain.

I do think equally if not more important though is someone that can slot in to midfield. That might be a harder position to fill.Originally posted by dww View PostWho do you think would fit in and be of sufficient quality? I have no idea but I've been watching much less football of late.

But does it change based on the players recruited not working out?Originally posted by captainfog View PostIt's difficult to sign players for a certain style of play when that style changes every 6 months.
He may want to play 433, 4231 or 41212, but if you don't have the players that work in that system you can be stubborn and try and grind it out, or you can change it up. I think Rodgers did both this season. Trying to slug through with Mario & Rickie early doors, then scrapping it and changing up after Basel.Forwards.......

Kenny won the league cup and lost the FA Cup Final and still got sacked. Rodgers signings have been very poor, I think he's gone this summer as both Klopp and Rafa (and possibly De Boer) are available. Whether or not we could get Klopp or De Boer is another matter but in 12 months time all 3 will most probably be unavailable.
I think FSG will see them as an improvement and get them if they can.

Brendan is certainly under pressure. UTD slipping up today just makes our dismal recent run even more frustrating.Modifying post.

Kenny pretty much had total control on transfers with help from Commolli. Rodgers hasn't so I guess that's the difference.Originally posted by craigwynne75 View PostKenny won the league cup and lost the FA Cup Final and still got sacked. This season has been gash and although he talks a load of garbage I think we'd be mad to get rid. Give him another season to try and turn things around and learn from his mistakes.
We must do better though, what we've seen this season has not been good enough for this football club. We should always be aiming as high as possible even if you know in your own mind you're not capable of it.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

Welcome mate or welcome back if you're a previously banned member under a different guise.
FWIW I don't think it would matter who was available - there's been an almost complete absence of plausible stories suggesting that FSG are looking to get rid of BR and a number suggesting they'll keep him - albeit with caveats.
I can't decide whether I want him to stay or not, but IMHO he'll be the manager next season.

I honestly can't remember what the media were / weren't calling with regards to Kenny's tenure but I think last season's second place will probably ensure BR gets (at least) one more.

IIRC, things came out and were escalated nearer the end of season. Thus the splatterfest Boston call. FSG made noises they weren't happy with cliques going on and secrets/whispers. Probably mainly centred around Commolli's transfer fckups and Dalglish backing him.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostWhen Dalglish was sacked, all the stories were that his job was safe, pending a season review. No such issues (yet) with Rodgers. FSG are now satisfied with the transparency at the club. One tit for another.

Rodgers will go to Boston and the safety of his job will surely depend on the answers he gives. The question I would ask is have we improved in the three years he's been manager? I would say we have. When he took over we weren't even contenders for the top 4, regardless of where we finish, we are at least that now.
The next question is can he take us to the next level? I guess he could argue that he's already done that last season. Since he started he was tasked with getting rid of players on high wages who weren't proving value for money. I would say that come the summer he'd have almost eradicated the lot of them. I don't think there'll be any player on anywhere like £100k that isn't a key component to the side.
He will also have a very young side that you would have to say has massive potential and that regardless of who the manager is, can only improve. We may be miles away from a title challenge, but with the right additions we can go up a good couple of levels.
People will argue that others will improve this summer, every club always looks to do the same every season, but that doesn't always happen if signings don't work out. We have lacked a striker - the most important position on the pitch - virtually all season. Even if we don't sign one as good as say, Diego Costa, as long as we sign one worthy of being at a top 6 club, that'd be enough to improve us.Forwards.......

Ayre spoke if us needing to sign the Suarez of Groningen, that was those players last summer, not now.Originally posted by RichC View PostI think there will be a few players on the move in the Summer - Lacazzette, Icardi & Vietto to name 3 that if we could get a hold of would be great but even if they're out of our reach esp Lacazzette who you'd imagine someone like Madrid will be very interested in it might well open up other transfers for someone like Benzema or Higuain.* The above is posted in my opinion.
