They hire them so we'll poach them thinking we're onto a good thing.
It's a clever plan put in place in order to drain us of our relatively meek resources, i.e. paying twice what we should for people like Lallana, putting together ridiculous wage packages for mediocrity like Milner, giving Lovren a wage etc etc

Yeah, but wasn't there some more who came afterwards and have since left?

And neither of them were responsible for Suarez who was signed long before they arrived.

Brendan Rodgers has conceded that Liverpool's failure to qualify for the Champions League could mean they miss out on transfer targets. (Guardian)

We couldn't attract our transfer targets when we were in the Champions league

What was the excuse last season then Rodgers? I'm getting sick of the constant garbage this man talks. He must think the fan base is thick.

Before last season all we heard was CL football is where it's at, players want to come if we have CL football. We finally get it and the excuses started to appear.

Oh no one wants to join us London is where it's at. Utter BS from the club . I'd have a lot more respect for the club if they just admit they won't pay the wages.

Rodgers is the ultimate FSG yes man.

Even when we were in the CL the club appeared to treat it as an inconvenience. Madrid away for example. Unforgivable on my eyes.

Given the money last season, who would you have signed then?

I see Greizmann constantly mentioned, but thats literally the only other viable option to come here (I dont even know how likely that could have been). Especially given Sanchez just straight up didn't want to come here.

Is it not even vaguely possible last season could be seen as a blip, 2 seasons consecutively can be seen as progress and start to actually attract player?

                Nah, **** context, FSG out.

Just curious we all know Alexis Sanchez said he chose Arsenal as London was a pulling factor! But would he have come to Liverpool if we had a big name manager and all the other top talent we supposedly missed out on would they also have come?also letting Suarez go doesn't help

The players we signed last summer were players we could have signed regardless of CL football. In fact most of those players would have signed for villa if villa had the money we had last summer. That is the problem for me as all we heard from the club was how getting into the CL would allow us to get a better calibre of player which wasn't the case.

As for your question for a start I wouldn't have bought Lovren and I'd have kept hold of Agger.

Asked that question would you say, no it won't make a blind bit of difference? Because that's definitely the more farcical answer.

Sure, now let's also beat him with the hypothetical stick.

It's a hypothetical stick not a real one

Im not going to convince you. But do you not concede that overall our squad is stronger than it was last season, and the season before?

Yes its frustrating not signing the big names, but I think there is a plan in place.

If Rodgers is the man to go along with the plan is still up for debate, but you can see the logic behind everyone we signed.

Lovren for Agger is a valid one, but after Lovren playing last season the way he did I think most thought it would work out, even just a little. But thats failed massively.

Also, Agger said he couldn't hack the pace didn't he, so that was hardly an option.

I was / am a huge Agger fan, loved him when he was with us but keeping him around was not really an option - at the very best an illusion of what he could have been. Seriously he's played 13 games this season in the Danish league, the rest of the tiem spend being injured - what would that have looked like in the PL.

But on note, I would also have kept a better Gerrard and I defo would have kept Suarez instead of Balotelli - we would really have been a force then!

Reality is easy to forget in the virtual world, but let's try and be realistic about where we are as a club.

It isn't. We've got a lot of wide/in the hole players but only one striker and one defensive midfielder, both with a record of long term injuries. And Gerrard has fallen off a cliff, and won't he here by the summer. We have such a patchy squad and it's that that has cost us. We were in a better position a year ago.
