well, that's no big news, is it? it was reported back then that we were in for those players but didn't get them. just like we couldn't convince costa to come back then. so you go for young talent and take your chances.
we just need to realise that haven't won anything of note since 2005 and have come close to winning the league only 2 times since then while being absolutely nowhere near the top otherwise. so unless we win it or consitently challenge for the league and get out of the group stages in the cl those top players will move to rivals. simple as that.

It shows a reluctance to go the extra mile to land a target, rightly or wrongly, that is the way we are doing business in the transfer market. On one hand you could say that we will only pay a fee and wages we feel a player is worth, on the other hand we miss out on targets as we are unwilling to pay that little bit extra.
The problem is that there are numerous examples of successes and failures when looking at either strategy - just look at United in the summer for two perfect examples. Di Maria, they have spent an incredible amount on both in fee and wages, yet looks a Rolls-Royce of a signing. Falcao, stupid amounts of cash thrown at him and his advisers, looks like his knee might be shot.
High risk gambles both. We just don't want to play the same game.
I believe Rodgers is involved in a power struggle at the club, he's thinking that his second place finish last year gives him the upper hand in making the changes behind the scenes he wants. I'm not so sure, Benitez got his way, initially at least, thanks to Istanbul, the FA Cup win, and the Champions League final. An enviable track record of proven success that Rodgers doesn't have.
He'd be better served to revert back to 4-3-3 formation which better suits the talent in his squad and work with what he's got.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Didn't know where to put that. If the data is changed to "per game" Enrique jumps up top and Sakho to nr. 12
the only one missing is Johnson and King Kolo.
IMO this isn't down to the defenders, it can't be. They just can't be so unbelievably ****. I think this is down to lack of organization/coaching and midfield protection.Last edited by The_weatherman; 11-11-14, 10:04 AM.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I agree with you, we haven't really shown the ability to sign the big players. In recent years Alonso, Torres and Suarez are the ones that stick out. The latter 2 had plenty of doubt and risk involved. Even frugal Arsenal have shown they're willing to pay to get the big players now with Sanchez and Ozil in successive seasons.Originally posted by Rich View PostIt shows a reluctance to go the extra mile to land a target, rightly or wrongly, that is the way we are doing business in the transfer market. When you sat that Di Maria was is a huge risk, I fully disagree. He has unrecognisably improved from the player that Madrid signed from Benfica. He was one of the most important players in the team that won the CL last season, he was also very good at the world cup. I'd have been very surprised if he didn't work out and his start has been very good.
Falcao is a huge risk more due to his recent injury than his playing capabilities. I've always been a bit concerned about the high percentage of penalties skewing his stats, but regardless he is an outstanding striker.

Its not solely down to them. Although some of their positioning has been amateurish.Originally posted by The_weatherman View Post

A lot of the problems seems to be coming from the disconnect from the rest of the team. The forward players are not attacking with the speed and aggression of last season, and as such the defense is more exposed. Then when it is the players dont seem to be running hard enough to get back and help out.
Henderson used to buzz around for 80 minutes of the match last season, same with Sterling. But thats gone at the moment.*Except Michael, who died.

Di Maria's quality is not in doubt but it is a high stakes £100m gamble on a player that has never played in the PL.Originally posted by Zapater View PostI agree with you, we haven't really shown the ability to sign the big players.
