i think the manager needs a big result. he's got to show that with a smaller budget, worse players he can out think the opposition like previous managers have shown.

No, we are really not, especially when Kenny took over. The team Hodgson had was far better IMO. I'd happily have Kuyt, Maxi and Meireles back.

Well that's a bit simplistic mate. Kuyt, Maxi and Meireles of two or three years ago maybe but whether they are as good now is debatable frankly.

I also think we have a better team now but that's more to do with the manager and the way we play.

In a lot of ways I think you have to view the comments in the context that what we do want to do is have young players from an early point and form their football ideals and hopefully make them feel a connection to the club. The ideal is clearly La Masia - a production line of exceptional talent that even if they leave Barcelona always look to come back as the pinnacle of their career. For a variety of reasons I think that is more of an achievable goal for us with English and specifically Liverpudlian youth (it much easier to imagine the best young players in South America dreaming of a future living in Barcelona than it is the north west of England).

I think talk of targeting local players is PR for our local recruitment - we improve our chances of recruiting players against competition from United , City et al if players think they will be more likely to get a chance of first team football with us.

Top assist maker in the PL so far who is also world class, despite not being at his best.

The best DM in the league, if he can get himself fit again.

The best RB in the league.

One of the best CB pairings in the league.

We’ve got our most exciting group of young players since the days of Gerrard and Owen etc.

I think once we get everyone fit and playing well, with a few extra additions we have a very good team. Certainly not the worst in my life time.

I'm sure every Club in the country would love to pack their team with local players; it makes sense on so many levels, but it's just not possible to do it in the competitive environment we are in. But to suggest that we'd deliberately overlook players that are good enough simply to load the team with non-locals is nonsense. This is yet more PR bluster from Rodgers I'm afraid.
