Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy, Aquilani.....hopefully soon Cole......

That lot were taking out more than £20m a year in wages from the club. BRs remit was obviously to get rid of high earners that offer close to fock all and assemble a young hungry squad. If he does that well, then he should have proved himself enough to get some proper 'kenny-style' cash and buy some proper top quality players...

I haven't read all this thread but I have seen people ask "how do we judge Rodgers at the end of the year?" With a suggestion that if we don't top last seasons 8th, a cup win and another final, then he should get the bullet.

That would suggest that bringing through Sterling, Suso, Shelvey, Wisdom - and hopefully more of Morgan, Yesil, Sinclair,Robinson, Ibe in the 2nd half of the season means nothing at all.

If LFC can be patient as a club then we have a great future coming up...

Well we got rid of the high earners, but sadly they were offering quite a bit goals wise and that's why we miss them.

We are no longer a top side because when we let players go, we replace them with worse players.

For one reason or another, we were right to move on Aqua, Kuyt, Bellany & Maxi. But a top side would have replaced them with players of quality, not relied on youth players in the main.

And that's why the loss of them seems such a mistake.

Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi scored a quarter of all our goals last season despite their limited amount of game time. And we haven't replaced them with players capable of contributing those goals.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says critics should wait until the last two months of the season before passing judgement on his team.

Liverpool have been very inconsistent in the Premier League this season with their last two matches - woeful in defeat to Stoke, excellent in beating QPR - encapsulating their form.

Many have been quick to point out there does not appear to have been much progress made since last term.

But Rodgers - who will be back in the dugout against Sunderland on Wednesday after missing the QPR trip with illness - is confident there is time yet to improve things.

"This is a period of time where you have to keep your head down and work hard and give the players every chance to perform," he said.

"The second half of the season, and in particular the last 10 games, I believe you are working to because that is the business end when things are decided.

"When you arrive at that period you want to get yourself in a good position to challenge, whether that is in the league or cup competitions.

"We can still achieve our objectives this season so when you can do that going into the second part of the season it gives you real hope."

Liverpool have been waiting to finalise a deal for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge but that will not officially be completed before the visit of Sunderland.

Blackpool winger Tom Ince has also been linked with a return to the club he left in the summer of 2011 but those negotiations are proving more difficult.

Aside from that Rodgers is not planning a huge amount of business as he knows there is not a lot of money to go around.

Rodgers admits it is always difficult trying to secure significant signings in January but he is happy with the backing he is getting from owners Fenway Sports Group.

"Even if managers have a player they think they might lose they don't want to lose him in January, they at least want to get him through to the end of the season," he said.

"The support the club will give us will be excellent. The owners have been great and I have no complaints in terms of where we are as a club at this time."

Rodgers has now completed seven months at the club, having succeeded Kop icon Kenny Dalglish who was sacked in May.

Despite results not being quite what he would have wanted he is enjoying the experience as boss of one of the most high-profile clubs in the world.

"You are very much in the public eye far greater - that is the single biggest thing," said the former Swansea manager.

"But I love the expectancy and challenge of making this great club great again.

"That period (since taking over) has been fantastic and I believe as we grow and work more together we will improve."

Fair enough, he's giving himself until April before he runs out of grand excuses. Also gives his players something to aim for in terms of a timeline. I was willing to give him until Xmas next season but if he's bold and happy with April this year then that's a good confident gesture.

The objective is to win games and accumulate points over the course of a season, something we've been dismal at thus far. This seems like more bull**** to me. During the second half of the season those teams who have exceeded their expectations seem to lose momentum and there is more pressure on the teams at the top. We're stuck in mid-table and neither of those things are likely to affect us. I wish Rodgers would talk less.
