The wording was very careful, he didn't say exactly what the offer was did he. I seriously doubt he was outright offered a managerial role.

I'm not so sure. I think the timing of making that move is important. To me it would be a valid opinion to feel that we were a poisoned chalice last summer (lack of enough funds to meet expectations + problems of following Dalglish). Look at how things have gone for Rafa post Inter to see how a single bad career choice can have a serious impact on what you can do next.

Does make you wonder if he was their first choice or not, he was the first interviewed as far as we know, if that means anything ?

But why say it now, why not come out publically and decline the offer at the time, would he be bound by any contractual issues set in place before the talks took place, that have now run out ?

Rodgers turned down move after seeing the plan FSG were after....went for Martinez, tried to shove Director of Football guff down his throat - he rejected....went back to Rodgers with tail between legs and capitulated on DoF guff.........and the rest is history.

do you think martinez was asked about being a DOF with Rodgers his manager?

The former initiated the change at swansea and the latter took it on and made more of a success of it.

if we're copying that model (bigger and better obviously), then isnt it a sensible strategy.

so they interview the two starting with martinez, he rejects the DOF role and rodgers rejects working for a DOF.

So we're left with the manager we always wanted and our concession is that we give him control.

There is no doubt that he was interviewed for the job (photos of him and JWH in Miami can easily support that) but we came out and openly said that we only offered the job to Rodgers and there is no reason to think that is not the case.

On that basis, i wonder if FSG will let him get away with it, having said publically that only one person was offered the job, which was BR, then Martinez is basically..in a round about way..calling them liars.

Whether Martinez is being clever, and it was a DOF position he was offered and turned down, he must know people will assume it's the managers job he's on about, and i also believe that's what he means.

BR will no doubt be asked about this in his next presser, with some smart arse probably phrasing it in an insulting way..like... 'Do you mind that you may have been Second Choice for the job after Martinez ? '

we cant start lynching rodgers after one **** result. Ive watched the game again and first half we were pretty good. Their goal was a brilliant strike and that can happen to any team at any time. It came so close to half time too we didnt have enough minutes left to retaliate.

But some of the passing and the movement was really good and considering that gerrard didnt turn up we did play really well at times and created plenty of chances.

The sending off turned the game and thereafter we were struggling but i still think rodgers made some mistakes but a new manager wont know everything about his players so he's going to make some bad mistakes.

His first mistake was playing kelly right back instead of johnson. although johnson still attacked ok in the first half, our whole right side was just completely ineffective. We created virtually nothing down that side.

Then i think when we went a man down, he made some bad choices then. We're chasing the game and we need goals so carra comes on and we keep our four at the back shape as opposed to going three and keeping four in the middle and two around the apex of the attack.

I also think playing suarez up front was also a mistake because we know he;s not ruthless and borini should have played upfront with suarez on the right cutting in.

Rodgers is still learning about the players so we need to be patient but if had analysed our play from last season he would have realised that chance creation or the defending werent our issues. We just couldnt put the ball in the net.

Yet, ten days or so away from the end of the transfer window, we're still waiting for a proper player who will score goals to turn up.

I thought we played decent football until we had unlucky with Gera goal late in the second half and after that we made couple terrible mistakes that we have paid dearly.

We didn't play great but we didn't play that bad as many are saying.

In terms of Kelly, yes in Rodgers' system Kelly will not be a good feet as he is not offensive minded fullback and can give us very little upfront but with Enrique not being available he had no choice.

I suppose he could have play Agger or Robinson as LB but going with GJ there was a safe choice.

In terms of Borini and Suarez, I'd also play Borini in the middle but I'd play Suarez on the left and not on the right.

He likes to cut inside and personally he is much more dangerous when he goes into the box from the left.

We have to give the man a season at least. I disagree with his appointment though, far to inexperienced for me, but he's here now so let's just hope he gets us charging up the table. He needs backing from FSG though, and I don't think that will happen anywhere near the extent that we need.

We passed the ball around quite well under Kenny mind, just saying

By doing what we did we effectively reduced our attacking threat from both sides whereas if johnson had stayed right we would had a fully functioning right side.

I would have played kelly on the left.

I don't know why nobody has moved Kelly to CB yet. Surely he is ready for the transition. Think he would be a much better CB than a RB

I think he is likely to always be an RB, he is decent in that role and his attributes are far more suited to playing there imo.
