Said it last night that we lack a true leader in defence plus Lucas, a shouter and berator like Carra or Ferdinand. The two most like them aren't getting a game. I find the Agger situation utterly baffling. He just seems such a Brendan sort of player, a perfect fit

there are no leaders on the pitch other than suarez, but he is too isolated. he was shouting to moses telling him where to fill in, and also to sterling and others.
henderson does a little bit of shouting, but around our goal it is silent. no one being the boss

i wonder if he is being kept in bubble wrap ready for the january sales

I think there maybe an issue with set up moreso than personnel. I certainly dont think agger is the answer either. His concentration can be shocking

If thats for me I'm not criticising,its a valid observation.We are pure muck under high balls and have been since Brendan arrived. Nothing has improved in that area in the 1.5 years he's been here so if its not the coaching or a deliberate approach we are taking then the entire defence needs replacing because they make too many "individual errors".

We've made great strides on very little money and are one of the best attacking outfits in the league,but we will always struggle in the big games if we can't keep it tight at the back.

Think that's a massive discredit to Rodgers. We had problems in defence last year, he identified it as a lack of leadership, made changes and we finished the season hardly conceding any goals. We had something like 9 clean sheets in 11 or 12 matches between the end of last season and the start of this, which is phenomenal. I think the issue is more to do with the fact we started this season with a new defence and have been forced to change it almost on a weekly basis and can't get a settled back line.


On another note, I think it also shows that Pepe isn't the liability that a lot on here hoped it would prove when he was replaced.

Dunno, I loved Pepe as much as anyone but he'd steadily declined post-Rafa at least. Not saying it couldn't be turned around though. Wonder why we never tried to get Valero back for him.

No mate, wasn't at you. Errors I was referring to was the Mig one and lineo. You're right though and i sort of mentioned it on my next bit. Us being weak at corners extends back years like lack of width issue. I think it'll get addressed with the next CB we sign

I can understand why we let him go and concede his form had dropped in his last couple of seasons, but we still always had a good defensive record with him in nets and his form towards the end of last season was getting back to his very best IMO.

Agreed. Mignolet is a good keeper. Made an error but otherwise his shot stopping is brilliant. Reina was a great servant but poor for a while. Shots went past him regularly

Yeah Fair points,we've gone backwards alarmingly this season though,Shows how important Carra was too. Also an indicator both this season and last,that we just don't keep clean sheets when Skrtel is in the team.I don't think Skrtel or Agger are the answer in there.

We were attacking in normal play and we committed too many men forward.

I think Mignolet is a good keeper, but the defence have less confidence in the goalkeeper's passing/distribution since Reina left. Opposing teams know that they can unsettle us now whereas Pepe was quite comfortable on the ball and was capable of playing neat short passes or long range goal scoring opportunities for our forwards. We need to be more composed, but it's much easier said than done. Maybe we need to use Mignolet less, he's not a ball-playing goalkeeper. I like Mignolet, but if I was Rodgers I would be looking for a better all-round keeper this summer.

According to Tony Barrett he's miles off being ready,every time he plays for the reserves they concede 2 or 3.

They could give him a shot at left back as hes very quick and good on the ball.
