I'm not disputing his contribution but he needs to be playing in the right area. He has goals and assists this season but before he got injured teams were running through our midfield for fun. Then he was out of the team and we took far more control in the middle, especially in two or our hardest away games so far.

By all means have him in the team but it needs to be in place of Sterling or Coutinho rather than any of Allen, Lucas or Henderson. If he "must" play and if the front two must play then I can only see him in behind the front two because behind that we are better without him, particularly against the good teams.

Not that we have the luxury now cos Lucas is out. It feels like a massive gamble playing him DM at this point in a season when we have our best shot of CL in years. Still Allen hasn't been great there either so it's much of a muchness who plays there now that Lucas is out.
I'm still yet to understand what Allen actually contributes though

Hes no good as a defensive midfielder as he cant tackle has little or no body strength and he contributes virtually nothing going forward

In short when he plays hes someone who runs around a lot with great energy but when you actually analyse what he contributes its very little

At least there is hard evidence as to what Gerrard and also Henderson contribute at the top end of the pitch (ie - assists)

Long term the system will no doubt require someone other than Gerrard but as things stand today can we afford to drop a player out of our side who has 6 or 7 assists to his name I'm not sure

Has Gerrard assisted from open play this season?

It's Allen though, not Henderson. Whenever Lucas plays in a midfield 3 the other two are considered advanced so I'd assume Henderson and Gerrard will play more advanced roles.

Gerrard should be allowed to roam round midfield, he's always motivated himself more when free to play his game. So Allen playing the holding role, Gerrard as pivot and Henderson providing the driving force to cover for Gerrard. IMO like

He won't be dropped cos Lucas is gone now. I wouldn't want him dropped anyway,I want him in an attacking role, unless we sign a new DM it won't happen though and I think we'll lose points because of it.He's been easily bypassed a few times this season and just stood there and let it happen and thats with Lucas beside him.Him there on his own is just mental.

I look forward to him having a storming rest of the season from DM and making me look a right tit.

I am in total agreement with you regarding Gerrard and the DM role

He shouldn't be playing that position imo, but unless we bring in a new holding player he looks like he will be

What did Allen actually do in that Spurs game? What? Exactly.

I don't see what's wrong with him as one of our front three. Sturridge and Suarez in particular are so fluid that his tendency to wander off to try and make things happen would be a bonus rather than the liability it is at DM. They're all such intelligent attackers that the interplay would come - Gerrard showed that when he was in behind Torres.

Plus, if he stayed out rightwards, his crossing would be a real asset.

Gerrard is the best Defensive Midfielder at the club.
In a midfield 3, he's ****ing useless in a midfield 2 just as he was in 2005/6 when Rafa moved him to the right.

1 **** 45 minutes when the team was wrong or right team wrong system doesn't mean he can't play there.

Paul Scholes was a better goal scoring midfielder than Gerrard, he adapted to the deep lying playmaker role easily and Gerrard can do the same.
If he doesn't it's because he doesn't want to make it work, and if that happens then drop him.

If we buy a new DM personally I'd start phasing out process.

He is an absolute legend (the best Liverpool player ever imo) but I really like the look of our midfield with Hendo, Allen and Lucas and if we get a better DM then even more.

Fluid, quick, dynamic midfield that can press, pressure all over the pitch and quickly move up and transition from defense to offense and sadly I cannot see him being part of that any longer.

                                Sell him for glue.

I'd love to see him play in the Italian league but only once he's lifted the league trophy
