The guy is a legend in his own right and should be given an honorable discharge but you just have to face it boys - the party is well and truly over. He looks tired, out of place, complacent, over the top, fed up, going through the motion and has zero confidence. If that's what you get for 130000£ a week...We wont turn the tide until he retires. We need something completely different like a Silva type who can create in tight Spaces and lose players to shine with Rodgers and his philosophy.

Gerrard is so clearly not the right type. The only thing left for him is the long ball which he still deliveres a few times each game. Trouble is - it is NOT enough from CM. Not with Allen at his side. We need better sooner rather than later.
Have to say I agree with most of that. Still think he could do the business up front though.

Thanks for you time and sorry if this annoys you...
Thats your opinion and I respect that, no need to apologise for sharing it mate.

I disagree and maintain that he has still been our best midfielder this season. It is Allen who is the little lost boy in the middle now and the one who needs to be taken out of the firing line. IMO.

Gerrard is not finished yet, not by a long shot.

You either need speed or amazing technical skill to cut it upfront and Gerrard hasnt got either. Long beautiful passes - thats about it.

Allan is not Alonso but he is most certainly not the explanation for the fall of Gerrard either...

Have to disagree with the technical ability. I reckon Gerrard has that! Also its not strictly a striker role. Id play him the way Shelvey was used against Young Boys. Making runs from Deep to meet headers in the box and also coming deep to play in the two wide men. Thats how I reckon Gerrard could be successful. So more like a deep lying striker. With Sterling and Suarez cutting in and making runs ahead of him, I reckon it would work.

                'Phenomenal' Gerrard key for Liverpool

Steven Gerrard is the man Brendan Rodgers wants to guide the new breed at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Steven Gerrard now has more responsibility than ever in his role as club captain at Anfield.

Gerrard, 32, is the second-oldest player on Liverpool's books, with only 34-year-old Jamie Carragher born before him.

Rodgers has brought through several young players in his attempt to usher in a new era of long-term achievement at the club. Players such as Raheem Sterling, Suso and Andre Wisdom have all seen plenty of first-team football this season despite still being in their teens, while players such as Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson and Jonjo Shelvey are not much older.

While Gerrard's goal-scoring rate has so far fallen short compared to previous seasons, Rodgers insists he has not asked his skipper to take on a more defensive role, but that his importance as a guiding influence for his team-mates is more important than ever.

"I don't think there has been a clear change in his game in terms of what I have asked him to do," Rodgers said ahead of his team's trip to face Tottenham on Wednesday night.

"Steven has always been the player who makes the difference over the years and, OK, he may not have had the goals this season that he has wanted but he has still been effective. There has been nothing more or less I have asked in terms of defensive responsibilities.

"He has had to take on more of a mantel because it is a much younger group. In the past he has played in teams with more experience around him and I think that is the biggest change this year.

"There is more responsibility on him to look out for the team because of the youthfulness of the team and he has been brilliant. He is a phenomenal player and a great presence for us."

Been critical of Gerrard this season and IMO rightly so. But i really hope that sooner rather than later Gerrard is pushed upfield to a more offensive role. With Lucas and Allen covering the space in front of the back 4 and with much less defensive responsibility, Rogers can utilise Gerrard best assets his shooting and passing.

Makes sense to me having Stevie much closer to goal and closer to Suarez. One thing Gerrard hardly does anymore is shoot. For a guy that literally has one of the cleanest strikes in the game, his shooting is non existent.

Anyways, hope he can regain some of the form he once has as at the moment he really doesn't effective games in the that deeper position, cruises through games unnoticed & really is only in the starting 11 because he is Steven Gerrard.

Not sure what he was thinking when he headed the ball into his own net. Did he mean to head it back to Reina?

I've no real problems with that

One of them things for me

Cross should have been stopped at source, let players put decent crosses in the box and you run the risk of defending players making mistakes

Steven Gerrard has been a great player but sadly he is not any more.

He is still one of the best free kicks cross specialists but that is not enough imo to warrant him a starting job.

We need to find him a replacement sooner rather than later.

I was mad as hell when he scored the OG but watching the replays, I think Agger might have got a touch too.

Definitely needs to play up top in the front three or have a rest for a couple of weeks.

His place in the team isn't justified at the moment imo.
