Rangers are off their heads and totally deluded. They've spent years out of the Scottish prem and had to come up the leagues and when they come back up to the prem there is an expectation that they should be challenging Celtic right off the bat.

I wish Gerrard all the best.

don't understand it, he barely got any experience with the youngsters and wasn't he just recently saying that he was grateful for Klopp's advice that he should do it away from the public eye so he can make mistakes.

You obviously haven't spoken to many Rangers fans in the past year or so.

Anyway, this will go horribly wrong for Gerrard. As nailed on as you like.

Don't see it really. He'll have some money so the worst that happens is they come second and don't win a cup. Then he takes a job in the championship or even league one. But that's probably what he'd be ready for after another couple of years coaching with us anyway.

And if he does alright, then he's up for a lower PL level job, something he'd be unlikely to get without the experience of managing a first team.

Hope the kids he takes from the club on loan do well though.

              Exhibit A - John Barnes

From what I was reading the other day, I don't even think they've got any money. Coming second and not winning a cup is the equivalent of us finishing in the lower half of the league. It won't be seen as good enough. Second place this season isn't even a given for Rangers tbh.
              Oh I don't know.

                Nonsense.

He's got to start somewhere, and there are no easy jobs without unrealistic expectations to be measured against. That's the position of a professional football manager, if that's your career goal then these are the chances you take.

Couldn't care less who wins the Scottish league, but hopefully he does well and it can prepare him for a bigger job in the future.

he should have gone to league one and done its sensibly and out of the spotlight.

Danny Murphy comments on Gerrard illustrates how clueless English pundits are on Rangers

Steven Gerrard is on the brink of becoming the next Rangers manager but former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has left himself looking ridiculous with some of his comments over what his former Anfield team-mate faces at Ibrox.

Murphy appeared on Sky Sports’ The Debate on Wednesday night to discuss Gerrard’s imminent move to Ibrox and didn’t seem to have an understanding of quite the level of expectation that Gerrard will be under in Glasgow.

Murphy doubted whether Rangers fans would be expecting Gerrard to win the title, saying “people don’t expect him to go up there and win the league, do they?”

I’m not sure what Rangers it is Murphy thinks Gerrard is joining but the minimum expected of his is to win the league.

The idea that Gerrard can come to Ibrox and do an OK job by staying within touching distance of Celtic is one that is certain to end in tears.

Rangers fans quite simply demand success and the idea that any manager would come to Ibrox with the express aim of just being the best of the rest is utterly baffling.

While it might not happen immediately for Gerrard, and few will be losing their minds and demanding his sacking if the Gers don’t win the title next season, with reports stating he has signed a three-year contract at Ibrox then winning the title is precisely what Gerrard has to do if he is to be a success.

                        Anything else is abject failure.
Kenneth. Our very own Danny Murphy.

Let's say his first job doesn't go great and he's sacked after 18 months, failing at Rangers is better than failing at Rochdale in terms of perception when applying for the next job.

I don't know anything about the current squad Rangers have, but if Gerrard uses his connections and gets in some loans from us and elsewhere, he can strengthen the team quite a bit on the cheap.

Wonder if would take someone like Kent with him, who isn't going to make it and probably needs a change.

                              From the article Buzzo quoted:

Gerrard would be starting his managerial career in an environment where he could only ever be second best, such is the extent of Celtic’s resource pool. It is also a far more ferocious and intense scene than even he has encountered at Anfield. Back to back draws for either half of the Old Firm are the stuff of public relations disaster. There is no breathing space, a situation which even decorated football men or managers – John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish, Paul Le Guen – have proven unable to handle and in spectacular style.
                              Oh I don't know.

They are going to expect a lot because of his name and reputation. Scottish football may be low on quality, but it is high on passion. Gerrard will be a figure head and a target. He will also be expected to pull of some miracles in the transfer market.

If he can get second place and a cup, he will do well and it could be the making of him.

He will do well to get stuck in straight away (Sounness is a good example, show insane passion and the fans will love you) he needs to get in a fight or something. If he tries to play it cool, it will give of the wrong vibe. Ultimately I am not convinced Stevie will make a good manager, but we are soon going to find out.

The whole situation could turn against him very, very quickly though. Expectations out side of Old Firm games are that Rangers win.

                                Massive, massive gamble by him.

Will be mad to see Stevie in the opposition dugout at Tynecastle
