Rodgers had less than half the experience Rafa did when he joined us. I think he deserves some leeway due to learning to be a top manager 'on the job'.Originally posted by Rich View PostHe's a better manager than Rodgers is."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Fair point
If the team is based on good prospects then the manager shouldn't be imo - he should be proven. Rodgers isn't and seems to be constantly learning on the job. Europe, organizing a defence etc.Substance > Style

If leeway means us wallowing in mediocrity for a few more years until he learns some tactical nous then no thanks - he can learn at the job at Newcastle or Sunderland etcOriginally posted by dww View PostRodgers had less than half the experience Rafa did when he joined us. Did we 'wallow in mediocrity' last season?Originally posted by Yozza View PostIf leeway means us wallowing in mediocrity for a few more years until he learns some tactical nous then no thanks - he can learn at the job at Newcastle or Sunderland etc
I'm not 100% convinced by Rodgers but I think many people are judging him unfairly. I also don't see any of the likely candidates as necessarily bringing instant success.
I love Rafa and a large part of me would like to see him back as manager some day. With Gerrard leaving almost all of the old guard are gone so I guess you can argue it would be a fresh start in a way it wouldn't have been even a year ago. I'm not into Italian football enough to know but he hasn't set the league alight and I do wonder if football has changed and he has failed to adapt."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I was talking about this season & you know it mate, the epic failures in Europe in particular rile me big time - I just don't think LFC should be the place for an inexperienced manager learning the ropesOriginally posted by dww View PostDid we 'wallow in mediocrity' last season?

As for last season I think we've seen enough to suggest a huge part of that was down to relentless Luis. Plus would an experienced manager have gone gung ho at home to Chelsea like we did when we should have been a bit smarter in our approach?
i just get the feeling last season was a one off with everything nearly falling into place - hope I'm wrong

I know you were talking about this season but I think you have to judge on more than that. I don't think it is an easy picture to put together but I believe in realistic terms we are the 5th best placed team in the league and trying to better that position is a) difficult and b) the things you do to push higher can take a toll and leave you short of where a safer strategy would have left you.Originally posted by Yozza View PostI was talking about this season & you know it mate, the epic failures in Europe in particular rile me big time - I just don't think LFC should be the place for an inexperienced manager learning the ropes

It is a real danger/possibility about Suarez being the real force behind last season. Either way losing him and Sturridge was a real test and I don't think we passed it but we didn't do much worse than a dispassionate observer might expect.
I'm not wholly against the going at Chelsea plan. We weren't a team who were set up to defend. Sometimes you have to adopt a live/die by the sword approach. If we had set up to defend and they nicked a goal (a simplified approximation of tactics likely to be ascribed to Rafa or another more experienced manager) we would complain about that too. Chelsea are a good team and they beat us which would happen a fair percentage of the time no matter what we did.Last edited by dww; 30-04-15, 01:26 PM."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Fair points - like everyone else I'm severely pissed off at how yet again we've missed a huge opportunity to gain ground & seemingly squandered £Millions & I'm less & less convinced about BR being the man going forward
Can't see FSG sacking him though & going after RafaWhat do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins
