That's a bit harsh ain't it? Qualified for the CL in the first season and won the domestic cup, should they have fired him after that? This season have been a huge letdown, especially this spring.

Its 2 and a half seasons he has had isnt it? Or am I adding a year in?
I dont care enough to get into a Rafa debate, but I am pretty sure when he first got there they spent big money bringing some players in.
Its just my perception that he has failed at Napoli to an extent.*Except Michael, who died.

Took over in the summer 2013, so only his second full season.
But yeah the year they sold Cavani they spent a lot on Higuain, Albiol, Callejon, Mertens and I think some 5-6 more players. IIRC they spent something like £80 mio. that summer and recouped the most with that one sale of Cavani!!
Funilly enough I can't recall what they did last summer other than Guzman from Villarreal. And maybe Michu, didn't he go there as well from Swansea?

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says he will send his players on an "unlimited" training camp if results do not improve this season.
Napoli, managed by ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, face Wolfsburg in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
But they lost in the Coppa Italia semi-finals to Lazio on Wednesday and have failed to win in five Serie A games.
"I want discipline. I have never failed to pay salaries or even delayed them," Di Laurentiis said.
"I have spent 386m euros (£282m) on the purchase of players in 10 years and I demand commitment."
De Laurentiis, who is also a film producer, said if there is "no change of course" the players will spend an "unlimited time" in training at the end of the season.
"I dislike the idea of a training camp as part of the club's philosophy but Naples is a city which is full of distractions."
Napoli won the Coppa Italia last season and finished third in Serie A.
However, they have slipped from third to sixth place in the table recently and are struggling to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Benitez, whose two-year contract expires at the end of the season, said: "We got to the Coppa Italia and Europa League quarter-finals, so you can't say we're not doing well.
"We are still alive and kicking. We just need a little more accuracy in front of goal."

Pro Rafa : Rafa only spent what he recouped on Cavani, Rodgers has wasted cash
Pro Rodgers : Rodgers only spent what he recouped on Suarez, Rafa has wasted cash
Realistic view from football world : Both lost a good player but should be doing far better with the money they've spent.Forwards.......

Interesting that you seem to suggest that being 'pro' anyone means loss of objectivity. I also particularly like the way you've assumed people can be pro-Rafa or Pro-Rodgers, but not both.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostPro Rafa : Rafa only spent what he recouped on Cavani, Rodgers has wasted cash

In fairness, there are plenty on this site who give fair assessments on both. And despite what I say, my view is that both have done better than what others would suggest and I would love having either in charge at LFC next season.
Rodgers I think is exciting when everything comes off, with Rafa you know you can go into a massive game and have a good chance of being tactically better.
I'm hoping Brendan with time will develop his tactical nous. I think being in Europe is just as important for his development as it is the players.Forwards.......

Yep well on that score I'm already feeling a bit ill thinking of who I want to win the Manc derby.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View Post

Or you could be like me and harbour hopes of there being a 22 man brawl during the game that results in both teams being docked points
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

With the fixtures both have left, there's more chance of United dropping 9 points than City 8. There is a chance United could lose to City, Chelsea & Arsenal. It's not impossible. The issue is we have to win every one of our final games, which includes a trip to Stamford Bridge.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostYep well on that score I'm already feeling a bit ill thinking of who I want to win the Manc derby.

Yeah I think you're probably right. As a bonus I feel cleaner.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostWith the fixtures both have left, there's more chance of United dropping 9 points than City 8. 3-0 against Fiorentina which is a seriously difficult game. Funny how it is, when it rains it pours, Higuain is worrying though, doesn't look like he can buy a goal The way he screwed up that one v one with Neto was embarrassing, you'd think it was a different player. Callejon scoring again too. If they can put a run together it'll be an interesting end to the season.
