He wouldn't take the Newcastle job, unless a new owner is coming in and has talked to him about transfer budgets, as we know what Rafa is like by now.
Manchester City could be an option if they win nothing this season. The owner will want a man in charge who is a winner in European competitions.
Barcelona? Don't think he would take that job as he is a Real Madrid man.
Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Klopp to Barcelona and Rafa to Dortmund?

I don't think constant change works at a club and as such if the Rodgers revival continues this season i'd keep him, despite some pretty ****ing brutal errors. Top level coaches shouldn't make the errors Rodgers has this season.Originally posted by leo View PostI think it's time to bring him home. Make him DOF.
But..... If he can show he can rotate a squad he should get a stay of execution. To show that we'd need to do well in the cups and achieve top 4. Would show he's learning & evolving.
But if Rodgers was to go, I'd have Rafa back in a heartbeat.Forwards.......

Rafa and Rodgers having to work together?
No thanks.
Two men who appear to have very different views on how to build a team and set up a team. So Rafa as a DOF would not make a lot of sense to me.
Would much prefer if we as a club decided on a set up that we would implement from youth level right up to senior level, and then get in a DOF who is experienced with that sort of set up (be it defensive, offensive, mixed or whatever). The DOF then becomes a permanent fixture as does the set up, and any incoming managers would be hired on their perceived ability to excel within such a set up.
Basically something like what the likes of Ajax, PSV, Porto and others have been doing for years with their set ups.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Isn't that what Rafa was in the throes of doing just before he left?Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostRafa and Rodgers having to work together?

Not really. What I am talking about is the club having a set identity and set up that remains in place regardless of what manager is in place. One that means we have a system in place where the targeting of certain types of players, training, youth management etc all remain constant and at a high level and are something that an incoming manager uses and kno2ws are in plac before he takes the job.
Under Rafa we saw the ressie/youth set up receive an overhaul so that they were supposed to match what he was doing with the first team, but we heard of similar happening under Ged, and no doubt there have been changes implemented by the various managers that have come and gone since.
We seem to be constantly in a state of flux at Liverpool with a new set up starting more of less from scratch with each new manager we get.
Look at the most successful clubs in the world. Most of them have set ups and systems that remain fairly constant save for the personnel that come and go over the years. Even look to the so called lesser leagues and look at what clubs tend to do well in those leagues. In Holland Ajax and PSV have had fairly stable set ups that managers slot into for some decades now. In Holland Porto and Benfica do it. Even the mega clubs like Barca, Bayern, and Real Madrid have fairly stable set ups in terms of the systems they have in place that give them that bit extra of an advantage over clubs who chop and change set ups/ systems with each new manager.
And when a tried and tested set up gets married to huge money......well then you get clubs that will generally beat clubs of similar wealth but with less foundation.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Why Rafa's name keeps being mentioned as a DOF candidate is bewildering, and is yet another sign of obsession with the man.
He's a club manager who is trying to win things. He has not shown any indication or willingness to give up the daily workings of club coaching to take such a position.
Maybe when he's 60+, and has managed Spain, he'd consider it.
