I'd be interested to know what Rodgers sees in Lovren when training too...

For balance it's worth pointing out that Carra also totally ripped Sakho after the Palace game in 2013-14 too:

Sakho is a very talented defender, but let's not kid ourselves that he's the finished article yet. He's injury prone, occasionally very rash, gets out of position at times, and looks very awkward on the ball even if he isn't in reality. He does seem to have all of the attributes required to succeed though, and I'd definitely have him in the side ahead of Lovren (along with everyone else bar Brendan it seems).

The biggest problem is that none of our centre backs are really good enough at the moment. I've never rated Skrtel particularly highly, and the fact that he's been our best and most consistent centre-back for the last season and a half sums it up for me. I don't see anyone we can realistically go and sign who would definitely be better though?

Barrett: I think far too much is being read into the #Sakho situation. He's not first choice, that's abundantly clear.

Barrett: #Sakho has had fitness issues & form towards the end of last season wasn't great. #Rodgers wants to have a look at #Skrtel/#Lovren

          LFCZA ‏@LFCZA
Barrett: #Sakho is not the first player to have to earn his place back & he won't be the last. It's up to him now how he reacts. #LFC

Barrett: I got the impression that #Rodgers is looking for a reaction from #Sakho, it's an age old managerial technique. #LFC

          LFCZA ‏@LFCZA
Barrett: I don't think #LFC should consider getting rid of #Lucas unless & until they can sign someone capable of doing the same job better.

Barrett on #Milner/#Henderson partnership:It lacks a bit of balance for me and I cant help thinking that #LFC need something a bit different

            That makes no sense mate.

So we build a defense around someone who can defend but will miss 10-15 games of the season, and we then put the player who can't defend in his place while he's out?

I think Sakho is a very good defender, I rate him higher than Lovren and Skrtel but we've kept 2 clean sheets so far this season so you can't argue.

When and If Sakho gets his chance, I'm hoping he will take it but as it stands we stick with a settled back 4.

they are too similiar & both are wasted in the positions they are playing.

Well you play the percentages dont you

                Do you

                A) play a half decent defender for 60% of the season and a **** one for the other 40% of the time

                or

                B) play a **** one 100% of the time

Personally I'd go for option A)

Centre midfield just isn't right - and it's been a problem for the last two/three seasons. We seem to lack the strength and technical ability to control games (from centre midfield). This inevitably puts pressure on the back four (especially the centre backs). I think we'll see this against Arsenal.
                  Another MASSIVE game

I think it's easy to underestimate the scarcity of centre mids who can genuinely control and dictate a game. Not many do it well.

I think the balance we had with Alonso's control and Masch's attack dog is something few teams achieve
