Whatever about Lovren playing in the team, not being on the bench is a piss take. What does it achieve? How can he show his worth if he's not in squads. Given the current situation I'd see it as a poor reflection of the player if he signed a new mega deal while not even part of match day squads, happy to take the money and not play etc.

He needs to be on the bench against Arsenal really, if something happens and we need to put Kolo on against Arsenal, well that would be far from ideal.
      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

It looks a bit of a mess doesn't it. Clearly Brendan isn't the one who goes around offering and drawing up contracts - he picks the team and won't even put Sakho on the bench - and the contract offer has clearly come from "the club".

This story can be spun two different ways, and it seems we both have exactly the opposite views on the matter.

I think it shows faith in the player (Faith that all/most LFC fans seem to also have) So why do you think it speaks to his attitude? He obviously wants to play for the club if reports are to be believed, so whats wrong with backing him and showing him he still has a place.

Him being out of the squad completely is an odd one. But it could be being done to drive him harder. To push him to improve on the performances he served up at the back end of last season (Which at times were no better than Lovren)
          *Except Michael, who died.

He did the same thing with Skrtel. He barely played after January in Rodgers' first season even when it was clear that Carra's legs had gone.

That was to get a reaction out of Skrtel, looks like he's doing the same thing with Sakho.

It didn't work then so what make him think it'll work now?
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I am assuming that there is some either some kind of small injury or the manager/coaching staff feel that as a result of his wife havig the baby his fitness isn't where they would like. These are the only real circumstances I can imagine that would not only put Lovren ahead of him, but also Toure.

Presumably offering him a contract and a fairly significant pay rise suggests that we do see him as an important player in the not too distant future, as surely there is no way the club would pay £100k a week to a 3rd or 4th choice CB.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

This thread will now be deserted, seems like the uneducated yocals have headed to the Lucas thread with their pitchforks.

                    Is it clear?

If BR is now having his final say over transfers this summer, then you'd expect him to have the same on contract extensions and player exits too.
                    Oh I don't know.

Some people just don't want to see it. Smack on the face or not.

Long live our own Roman Abramovich, going over the manager's head.

We are only two games in ffs. His attitude might of been off so he's been kept out. If he hasn't made the bench within 2 months, then the time to be concerned. We have maximum points so far, so everything Brendan has done is good with me.

Contracts do not come from Brendan.

I think it speaks more to a player that wants to stay and fight.

Borini is clearly not good enough, but hes stuck around to see if he could get it to work. He could have gone on loan and earnt the same money as his contract with us.

Its probably the same with Sakho. He backs himself, so he will stick around for the fight.

Think people tend to forget though, that he had a temper tantrum last year at Everton when he wasnt picked. That sort of thing isn't that easily forgiven I guess.

                              What's funny?

Here is my take on things based on literally 0 inside information.

If the manager wants to buy a player, then surely he would instruct the board / whoever to start negotiations. He obviously wouldn't do it himself.

Ergo, if the manager wants rid of a player, then surely he would instruct the board / whoever to start negotiations to sell / loan. He obviously wouldn't do it himself.

Ergo, if the manager wants a player to stay for longer than his contract term, then surely he would instruct the board / whoever to start negotiations. He obviously wouldn't do it himself.

The idea of Brendan mulling over who he should offer contracts to, how much he'd like to pay them etc amused me.

Like when Rafa used to get caned for the likes of Joe Cole being on £100k a week. As if it had anything to do with Rafa.

"The club" - i.e. Ayre, Gordon etc - deal with all that. I'd imagine Rodgers is consulted, as he is a part of the committee.
