if you have 3 midfield players who can all rotate positions then emre can move into advanced positions as long as either henderson or milner drop back in.

with gerrard gone, it will make the midfield as a unit function better but it may not be to the overall advantage of the team.

I still don't see Can as a first teamer (unless we need to revert to a back 3). But there are plenty of 'easier' cup and Europa games where we need him to take charge and lead us through.

Actually, considering how awful the "first team" were in those games, maybe he should start all games and he can take charge over some of the ****ehouses in the team. In a midfield role of course.

Last season, definitely. I was the the one advocating using him over Gerrard for example back in October. We did in one game and he played well against Madrid. Never to be seen again.

Anyhoo, next season I think with Milner and Henderson and even Lucas if he stays we have a solid enough midfield. Can will take time to bring his languid (Yaya) style into the first team maybe as he matures.

I see it the exact opposite, I'd build my midfield around Can

              Can
              Henderson-Milner

Not the most glamorous midfield in history, but it's full of running and essentially filled with 3 players who are about 7/10 or better at everything you need a midfielder to do, and all intelligent players. If they can all chip in with goals and serve whoever the 3 are in front of them i can see it being a success next year. I personally wouldn't want to play against those 3, you wouldn't get a moments rest

                -----Lucas
                -Can---Milner

looks better to me, two runners and one stay at home. Hendo can write a letter to the coach to express his disappointment.

Can is one of the few in the squad who can beat one or two players and get a good shot in consistently, no way should he be at DM. Milner and hendo at the base should be able to do more of that. Then have Coutinho drifting doing whatever he wants with the two strikers ahead.

Can looked fairly average when he played in midfield last season. I hope he kicks on this season.

I think he said Can was average when played in Midfield not over the whole season.

How many times did he actually start in midfield??

I cant think of him doing that on more than a handful of occasions one of which was Chelsea at home which he was one of our better players until he was bizarrely subbed

Most of the other times when he moved into midfield he looked half decent
