Ive seen Gerrard play passes that would value him at £100m and ive seen him play some that wouldn't even be passable for a sunday league side. Doesnt matter though.
    Yup.

I thought that was the purpose of the transfer committee - to get the best players available for the best value possible. We all pissed ourselves laughing when United spent £28m on Fellaini. Well LFC probably aren't in a position where we can just write something like that off.......where we can say "ahh fock it, he was ****e. Lets buy Herrera instead for £28m.....and throw in Daley Blind as well"
The market dictates the price and the TV money inflated those prices. It's also influenced by a whole host of other variables that you rarely get true value for money. It's a stick used to beat players, but they have nothing to do with a fee that could be agreed on contract length, money owed to the club, loss of merchandise .... all sorts.

I think it's fair to say FSG are quite savvy when it comes to our finances and we've seen them walk away from deals that aren't financially viable. As rcasemore has pointed out, I'm pretty sure FSG would have a top price for each of their identified targets and they won't go above that. As such, we paid what we thought was fair for players we wanted.

You can go throw your Reus' and your Draxler's around, but I'm pretty sure Rodgers will know his budget for the next two years at least and what parameters he needs to work with. Signing Markovic and Lallana and who ever else won't mean we've missed out on them and if push comes to shove, John Henry has always said money will be made available if the right player comes along.

Regardless if we did have the budget for players like Rues, Draxler or Hummels. Why would they want to sign for us? Should we break our wage structure thats only just got back under control for them?

Once a player signs for us, be it for £5 or £5million. It shouldn't matter.

Why dont we all go around screaming from the roof tops we only paid £1million for Sterling or whatever? We all know why, because who cares. All that people care about is them putting a shift in. Which so far, I think Lallana looks like he will do.
      *Except Michael, who died.

Also, Id add. Talking about finances when it comes to football is the single worst thing about the modern game.

Hardly any other sports have fans get all annoyed because Player x cost y.

Exactly. There's no guarantee that if we saved all our pennies for them that they'd want to come to Merseyside, the Premier League or England for wages that might be less than what is on the table from other top, top clubs. Who's to say we enquired about Reus, but he wants another year's experience in Germany?

We conducted our business, let's talk about Lallana's ability not what we could have got for £25m on Football Manager.

Have you considered that's a very abstract concept to understand for kids of 13 years or younger?
            Are we winning?

Lallana looks fantastic and I can see why Rodgers wanted him so much. Real willingness to press all over the pitch and great ability to carry the ball forwards and advance us up the pitch.

Watch him go when he's linking up with Sturridge. I think we'll be in the top 4 by Xmas if we can avoid defeat v Basel and get a win against West Brom. Build the confidence and come back from the international break ready to go.
                Forwards.......

I'm quietly beginning to get excited, starting with Basle tomorrow. Coutinho is also looking his old self again, which is bad news for opposition teams.

its good to see lallana finally looking like the player we wanted to sign.
his workrate and pressing are a great asset, it will be so much better when the rest of the lads remember how to do it.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

It was a big fee for Lallana and we probably over paid, but i like him & think he has done well for us thus far. Hopefully he can get fully match fit & start contributing with some goals and assists.
How much is a big fee, I have read different reports ranging from 18m going up to 25m, we can only read what we read in the press, clubs rarely say what was actually paid so all judgements about prices should be tempered.

Bournemouth publicised the fact that they received 4 million for their sell on fee (stated universally as 25%) so 16 million would seem the most likely.

Aye, but that's their cut of the initial fee. Initial fee versus add-ons is never something fans get a clear view of.

Yeah, Southampton were notoriously trying to cut the amount Bournemouth got. Which is why we probably agreed on 16mill that they are entitled to a cut off.

But then the add-ons would be ridiculous like Lallana plays 10 games and Southampton get another 4 million. He farts and they get another 2 million. Something like that which ensures more money goes in their pockets.

I can't imagine Bournemouth to be so done as to agree to an initial fee rather than a total fee received by Southampton.

I'm sure the lawyers were digging into every dot and cross to ensure Bournemouth only got the initial fee cut. That's why the saga dragged on for so long in the summer.
