This bit sums up his desire I think, I've certainly never seen a player with his level of commitment, attitude and off the cuff ability.
Will we ever see the likes again?
The problem is that this switching off also happens when I do something brilliant on the pitch and, of course, I don’t want to lose that. I’ve scored goals and later struggled to understand how exactly I managed to score them. There is something about the way I play that is unconscious, for better or worse. I want to release the tension and the pressure, but I don’t want to lose the spontaneity in my game, much less the intensity of my style of play.Modifying post.

He's totally right and seems very self-aware.
I think Rooney has been sanitised to some extent. He was so much better when he was a raw, angry kid. I remember a goal he scored where he was angrily arguing with the referee, then suddenly the ball fell in front of him randomly. He stopped arguing with the ref and just angrily whacked it into the net from about 30 yards.
Edit: found it

It summed him up at the time, he was a wrecking ball of emotion and anger, but all the better for it. Now he's a bit beige.

I know it's probably the biting incident that has denied Suarez the opportunity to be on the list, but he was the Player of the Year in the Premier League.
Are they rewriting history now and pretending he didn't score all of those goals? I presume FIFA are upset because Suarez stole the headlines from the World Cup.

Big difference between the two. Luis's insanity is just on the pitch. Off the pitch he is supposed to be wonderful with the fans, always saying yes to autograph requests, and a proper family man.Originally posted by Pablo View PostHe's totally right and seems very self-aware.

Rooney is just a thick angry asshole on and off the pitch.

I was just talking about them as football players really. On the pitch both are clearly better when they let their emotions run free. It's the only comparison I was making.Originally posted by peekay View PostBig difference between the two. Luis's insanity is just on the pitch. I've no idea what Rooney is like off the field (or Suarez for that matter), although I doubt he's necessarily the "angry asshole" you're making him out to be. He clearly is thick though, no debate needed there

Luis Suarez reveals he was close to joining Juventus in new autobiography:
SKY
In reference to his meeting with Rodgers, Suarez says: "The first talk I had with him has been at Melwood, just before he would have been named manager.
“It wasn’t a long talk: he wanted to talk with me because there was a possibility for me to go to Juventus.
“Brendan Rodgers called me in Spanish and he told me to give him time. He told me that we had to manage the ball and to play an offensive game.
“He convinced me. Even if results haven't been good, I had seen that we were playing better. I was excited."
