Only one goal where he has to move the ball, all the rest one touch, or a tap and kick sort f thing.

Divock Origi has committed his future to Liverpool Football Club by signing a new long-term contract at Melwood today.

The 24-year-old, who signed from Lille in 2014, penned the fresh deal with the Reds to extend his already memorable career on Merseyside.

The striker’s place in Anfield folklore was cemented when he scored the second goal in last month’s Champions League final victory over Tottenham Hotspur to secure the club’s sixth European Cup.

The No.27 had also scored twice in the historic semi-final, second-leg comeback against Barcelona at Anfield to book Liverpool’s spot in the Madrid showpiece.

“I’m very happy to be able to sign this contract and it gives you a boost at the beginning of the season, as well as the end of the season last year. So I’m very happy,” Origi told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I always felt comfortable here. I made steps during my career, I say that I became a man here at this club, I signed when I was 19.

“When we had to make the decision I just wanted to speak with the club first and my entourage, but the feeling was always that I wanted to stay and extend my contract.

“It’s an amazing club, we have a good group, the staff are amazing. Even coming into Melwood, the people that work here and everything, you feel there is something special going on here.

“We’re still young so there’s a lot of potential in the group. I’m just having fun in training and on the pitch. Those are all important factors as a player.”

Since agreeing a switch to Liverpool in 2014, before spending a further year on loan with Lille, Origi has scored 28 goals in 98 appearances for the club.

The Belgium international thrived following the arrival of Jürgen Klopp as manager during the 2015-16 campaign as the Reds reached two major cup finals.

He later joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a season-long loan in August 2017 before returning to Anfield ahead of what would prove to be a landmark season.

After his first appearance in 2018-19 came in early November, Origi went on to deliver invaluable contributions to Liverpool’s Champions League success and 97-point Premier League campaign.

“[I want] to keep progressing and trying to maximise the potential and talent I have each and every day,” the striker added. “At the end of my career I want to sit back and be proud that I used all of my gifts and talents.

“I think the next years are going to be very special – prime years, maybe – and I’m going to try to use them to the fullest.”

28 goals in 98 games is a decent return given how many of those will have been from the bench and how stop start his career has been with us.

I think he is a superb plan B... But I think we need someone else up front who can go plan A.

That said, I think he can be an absolute monster. He seems so sweet in interviews., though. Hope he makes it here.
Its handy to have the option to switch the dynamics of our frontline.

One thing I am sure of is that Klopp will get the best out if him.

Surely Div proved he has got plan A in his locker with his two goal salvo against Barca? People just want shiny new toys.

(Wait you’ve added more to your post which I agree with).

Sorry, I guess I was thinking if Firmino gets injured (especially) we dont have anyone who can replace him tactically. I think Divock can play through the centre (and I think he is better there), he would be better on the shoulder of last defender instead of dropping deeper. He also has good instincts in the box.

I would like to see us buy a striker who can drop deeper. Ultimately I trust Klopp, but I think he sees what we see, and knows we need one more player there. If he cant get one on tgen the right player was not available.

I dont think we will see much of Brewster, but I will be just as happy if he starts knocking them in Fowler style. I have never known a Liverpool squad to have such consistently high quality. It will be very difficult for a kid to immediately break through in the same way as the past. But two injuries and we are playing untested kids... I think that is a risk we need to mitigate, especially with all three forwards playing extended seasons.

                                Fair ****s Div......

Great move by the club too. As Jürgen said about the young players, he opens the door....it's up to the players to go through it.

The same applies with Divock. In reality he has been through a ****in terrible injury - the sort that would end a career in the last generation. If you look at his attributes, then he could be a ****in brilliant player. He's only 24. Approaching his peak, then who is to say he can't get his chance, take it and become a star.
