He's never close to getting on the end up things

The only time he looks involved is when we punt it in from a set piece

He is very static. But he's scored some excellent goals for us. Patience is required.

He won't make it here with Klopp as manager IMO. He's the antithesis of a Klopp player unfortunately for him and us.

You're right that he's not a bad player at all, he's actually decent but not good enough for us and especially not good enough for a team that aspires to play a fast, intelligent, high energy style of football.

I can understand why people are forming this opinion of him but he's not been given much of a chance and to write a player off of his quality so soon is a tad unfair.

He will be a very good striker for teams with the ambition of getting 8-15 place in the premier league. He can be a very dangerous striker getting 15 goals per season for teams like west brom where the ball is played to the feet or head, where he has space to attack. Teams with ambition of being in the top 4 often have higher possession, limited space in attack. He is not creative enough to operate in tight spaces, is not mobile or clever enough to make runs and stretch out defenses. I thought he could be a Benzema or Drogba style focal point for other creative players to buzz around, but looks like that is not his style either. Given the money in the premier league, I think we can recoup the fee. He pretty much single handedly kept Aston Villa in the premier league for two seasons. He is not a bad player and his style will be invaluable for certain premier league teams.

Looks off the pace all the time. Don't know if it's fitness issues or a real lack of goal scoring nous. Tbh, he has been unlucky though. It seems that whenever he leaves that back post area to anticipate a cut back it goes back post.

Think he got bullied as well by the West Brom defenders. He should be destroying them but he allowed them to get tight and hold him.

It was a super defensive display from West Brom and this sort of tactic can throttle the best of strikers.

I'm not Benteke's biggest fan but he can be a good attribute for the team with his strength and presence.

I still strongly believe we should play 2 up front at home too.

As much as he shows a lack of movement at times, I think he does look to get the ball into feet and move it around when it is played to him. Because he is such a big player and wins a lot of aerial duals our players get lazy and ping **** balls to him all the time which he clearly gets incredibly frustrated by, you just have to watch his reactions off the ball once it has been lost.

He isn't a livewire like Firmino/Coutinho and won't be going past 4 players in tight areas, but he can still move the ball around the box and doesn't just shoot on site. There were times today when he got the ball and laid it off to get it back and players played poor passes back into him.

I actually think he has a great touch and especially when he first started playing for us was playing great one touch balls/keeping the ball in challenges that are stacked way against him because he is so physically powerful the having defenders up his arse doesn't seem to affect his balance and ability to play, which is an incredibly underated skill.

He isn't as good as Sturridge that is obvious, and Firmino probably is a better fit up front for us than him at the moment(and probably Origi too), but Benteke still has a part to play in the squad.

One of the things I don't get. When he plays we often launch it up to him, he either loses the aerial battle or he wins the header and flicks it on to nobody. What's the point?

I've though for a while that shoehorning him in to the starting team is a mistake. He could be a valuable player once we work out how to use him but at present he just upsets our rhythm and makes as slow to get into games. As a sub he has shown he can help up vary what we are doing but we have to have established a pattern of play for that to work.

Because he is playing exactly like he did at Villa. The difference is with us he has less space and there is a greater epectation.

He still is a poor passer
He still can't take people on
He still is highly static

Good finisher, poor footballer. Which makes him a midtable player and sadly for us a huge waste of money.
