it's curious how Klopp hasn't brought in a raft of either german players or players from the german leagues.
Aside from Karius I cant think of anybody else.
When houllier joined we had an influx of french players and then an influx of Spanish players when Rafa joined. They used their extensive knowledge of their native leagues to hoover up young talent.
Klopp hasn't done that at all.
Further, looking at his new found faith in Moreno, he seems to be confident he can coach players to be better rather than rely on the last number of seasons evidence as proof that players aren't up to the job - see Mig, Lovren etc
Looking at his time at Dortmund, does he need a director of football to be at his most effective?

The bit above is the most important thing for me, when we found out we were getting Klopp one of the things that was the most exciting was that we were all of sudden going to buy the best hidden gems and turn them into superstars ala Dortmund.
The one thing that worried me in all of this was how good was Klopp and finding his own players. At Dortmund he had:
Zorc - one of the best around as a DoF
Sven Mislintat - their head scout and Bayern just tried to poach him from them.
Hans-Joachim Watzke - their CEO who has been there for almost 20 years so it a real football man.
A lot of the supporting structures he had at Dortmund are questionable at Liverpool - Edwards, FSG, Moore are all unproven at this level. Look I think he can spot a player but it's not like Naby, VVD etc are not already known. It will be the likes of Grujic, Karius and these type of players that will define the success we have because these were the type of bargains the BVB had and generated them bucketloads of money that they could reinvest WISELY.

He needs to lay off the Stella and pub quizzes and put some over time in. Rocks up to training then goes home and forgets all about it. Walking the dog like he has all the time in the world.
On a serious note there is lots of talented players in Germany who wouldn't take thst long to adapt to the league. I would have loved to have signed Bartra, tah or soneone like john Brooks. However we need experience and leaders also.

He's on a. It of a hiding to nothing transfer wise though.
Buy and unearth an unknown gem, and it will be, 'not another player for the future'.
Buy a proven star, and he'll get 'well, everyone knows about VVD and Keita'.
If this summer has proven anything it is that buying top level players in this market is not easy because seemingly smaller clubs are in a position where they can turn down £50m bids.
That said I doubt Souampton can turn down £60m.Modifying post.

Matip, Karius, Klaven, and Manniger all came from the Bundesliga last summer.
Our main midfield target this summer was Keita who plays in the Bundesliga.
But like you I did expect him to target the Bundesliga more that we seem to have done, and I say seem as who knows what happens behind the scenes.
The Bundesliga is rich with very talented young players and plenty of quality experienced played too that seem to tick the boxes for how Klopp likes players to operate.
Then again it is easy for me to go oh player X is quality and Player Y is brilliant when for all I know Klopp has run the rule over those players and been told no sale by the clubs or Klopp has better players that he would prefer to get.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think we have attempted to sign more players from the Bundesliga than anywhere else. Unfortunately I don't think it's quite as easy to find a bargain there now as it was a couple of seasons ago.
Forgot about Brandt
And we were linked to Gotze, Timo Horn, and I think Werner as well last season.
Yeah probably more difficult now to grab a bargain from there than it might have been some years back, but compared to EPL prices a player of similar quality from the Bundesliga will still cost less in genrl than his EPL counterpart.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I have no doubts about Klopp's ability to judge a player (outwith the ones in our squad
), on the basis of the recruitment he's done since he's joined I think he's done very well. Mane and Salah look like bargains and of course Matip.
However what he's attempted to do this summer, buy top quality players is a strategy he's never employed before but i've no idea who to blame for that really.

We were never buying for "the sake of it"! Ridiculous notion!Originally posted by Fredo View Post
The point is about us spending for the sake of it, which we clearly used to do. Had big squads of players we had to ship out after a few months because they were never good enough.
We just bought ****e! We needed players but bought badly.
